Kaveh felt thick tears roll down his cheeks where they gathered on his chin before falling between him and his father. Despite his tears, he pulled away slightly to catch his father’s gaze and nodded desperately. As he did, he found himself staring into the strangely opaque features of his father. I remember his warmth… I can see his smile- one that always made me feel so safe and warm. But… What did his nose look like? I can’t remember. His hair? It was blonde just like mine (I remember that’s why I dyed it darker in my akademiya days). How did he style it, though? I can’t remember. Another piece of his father seemed to fade every year. Another fragment of kindness lost in the sands of time- buried deep somewhere in the Great Red Sand where the rest of his father remained. As if sensing the growing dread in his child’s mind, his father picked Kaveh up, cradling him slightly as he turned them both away, further from the sumpter beast and showed him the rest of the forest. The fireflies began to appear as the sun began to set into early evening, dancing in the area around them and causing Kaveh to giggle despite himself as he attempted to grab one.
