Two tall and long blocks of flats are lit up on either edge of the photo, between there is a wide dark sky above, and grass and trees indistinct in the unlit below
As I quickly glanced left, for a moment I thought the lit buildings were huge pillars holding the dark sky above me – a highway to… somewhere.
Then I realised that Night's Bridge is by Hyde Park & I was approaching Loughborough Junction, so the moment passed.

A fingerpost footpath sign has a glove on one of its pointing arms, covering the last two letters of each word in "PUBLIC FOOTPATH". Behind are bushes, and two people walking over a wide green field
A fingerpost footpath sign has a grey glove inside out on one of its pointing arms, covering the very end of the text "PUBLIC FOOTPATH". Behind is undergrowth, then open water and blue sky with clouds
Object description, literalised
(Well, as close to without getting bloody…)
Both seen with the @metwalkers.bsky.social

I think there's also just a level of - if you've not grown up with curved phones, you don't have the assumptions that come with them, so you don't hold your mobile that way.

A bannanphone (ring-ring-ring-ring-ring) brings the speaker and microphone close to the right places, and is relatively comfortable to hold there. A rectangle, rather less so.
Perhaps also the rise of video calls is part of it, where people tend to hold it in front of themselves.

I'm not all that optimistic that we won't end up with more of the bad stuff they mention (AI clogging the lines) than the good (AI explaining and reminding for those who struggle with that).

I'm on the ONS monthly "How's the NHS doing?" questionaire, and my GP always goes down as 'Neither good nor poor', because they're good at healthcare and bad at admin.
I'm also bad at admin, but have learned I have to pour in the effort to make up for them 😑

Black and white photo of a cyclist on a dark city street with trees and cars barely visible each side. Other than the cyclist's back light and a lit area in the far distance, there's no lighting.

A seagull flying out across the water towards the other side of a wide river
Side of a house, with a balcony, 'standing' on the balcony is a life-sized fake skeleton. There's a seafront wall beyond a road, and a vivid blue sky with ribbons of cloud crossing it.
At the moment I'm trying to find the right time to head out to Grain, see the London Stone, round the peninsular from Allhallows back to Rochester - but this is making me realise that east of Southend is an 'anytime' walk, such easier access.
Seagulls and skeletons of Southend - I'll be back!

I love the inspirational element of such maps – I can look at that, feel chuffed that I've done most of the costal bits, but be reminded I've not been east of Southend itself, or to the stops between Upminster and Pitsea – and start thinking about what I might visit there.

A tall cylindrical tower has transparent walls and an inner metal central core with latters up six floors. It is in the centre of a roundabout, with tall blocks of flats and a blue sky edging towards sunset behind
I know the brain loves to pattern-seek, but I love that I shot this few days *before* an unrelated #wikipedia dive told me it was a 15m tall combined barometer and #London water Ring Main overflow.

A branchless tree has been cut off slightly above the waist height of the man standing behind it wearing protective equipment, the upper portion is in mid-air falling to the ground, and the man's arm is outstretched as if having chopped through it. A small chainsaw is on the ground nearby.

Sculpture of Milo of Croton, ancient greek olympian, pushing at a split log, with a golden sunset clouds, and many leafless branches behind.
Unfortunately, after spending *ages* trying to get the perfect #sunset angle, the photographer was eaten by ravenous wild peafowl

I agonise a little over my alt-texts – "It's a photo I think is pretty/striking" is the core thing, so do I over-describe or go short? My non-alt-text caption are there to inspire mindsets & to add poetry.
But I still do it for accessibility & 'cause they might be shared on in other contexts

I've also seen people want to keep the post short/snappy and put stuff that everyone might want to know as text in the alt text - which means it'll be missed by many.
Or someone trying to police the SilentSunday hashtag by telling people to put stuff in alt text because otherwise it's 'disruptive'

A golden sunset reflects across buildings and parked cars on a surburban street, and reflects against falling rain.
A golden sunset on the left fades into darker cloud on the right, seen from the wet pavement next to a major road on one side, and on the other an industrial building with signage partially visible reading "ESMEAD"
A thin branch with white blossom is close to the camera, behind it are many bare branches, a wide area of water and more trees, and a sky that's blue, pink and white, which is also reflected in the water.
Wide view of the sky over a large lake surrounded by trees and plants. The sky ranges from blue to pink and god, with dramatic clouds; the colours reflect into the lake below

Two women wearing leather jackets stand waiting in a train station, others passing by. One is standomg still and has heavy facepaint, with a white base, red cheeks, and a black shape around the eyes, and is wearing fishnet tights and studded black high heeled boots. The other is smiling with hands in the process of raising, and is wearing sunglasses, bright red lipstick, a flowing skirt, and shiny black stilleto heels.

I found Terminal 5 fairly walkable in that I was able to walk there from the Duke of Northumberland/Longford Rivers when running out of light + lacking another good exit.
But I'll accept that's a niche perspective, given all the weird looks I got when walking into the terminal with muddy trousers

A man wearing a large mask and a suit stands outside a building's emergency exit. The mask might be made out of a large thick plastic storage bottle, it has round holes for eyes and mouth, and a blocky triangular nose. His hands are in his pockets
People rarely look like the signs of them either 😩
