I've torn my desk apart, I've gone under the furniture with a flashlight, but I'm pretty sure they're out there in the wild. It was a whimsy purchase, and I don't know if I even want to ask my wife to let me try again. I can do whatever I want, of course, but I need her to check me.

I bought two nalbinding needles, one horn and one bone, to learn and practice knitting. I stored them in my glasses case by my keyboard.

And I must've needed my glasses for something, because the needles are missing from the case, completely lost. Really taking this badly, tonight.

Current events bring me down. Our society vaunts the worst among us—Palmer Luckey, Andrew Tate, Bezos and Musk and Trump—and enough people admire these wicked souls that I wonder whether I have any place in this world at all. #ÓðinsdagsAndakt #OldNorse #Havamal Translation by @norsebysw.bsky.social

Petition to once again - properly and correctly - refer to late Scandinavian prehistory as 'the Fabulous Age'.

"Laga" means prepare and "laug" means bath, but I don't know if that makes them related etymologically. #OldNorse

Funny how "skip" means ship but "skipa" means arrange. Does that have to do with organizing a ship for travel? #OldNorse #LanguageLearning

Happy International Women’s Day to Þora, who owned this spindle-whorl sometime in the 14th century in Iceland.

The inscription reads þo^ra:amig, ‘Þora owns me’. #runology #runes

Bought a small 3" "seax" through #BootsByBohemond. Tonight I practiced carving #runes with it, learned how to force a patina on the blade; next I'll learn how to sharpen it. Very pleased with the newest edition to my kit. boots-by-bohemond.myshopify.com/products/sae... #OldNorse

Skating in under the radar to participate in #BandcampFriday (setting my VPN to California to turn back the clock)!

This round it's #Forndom, #Herkunft, #Munknorr, and #Songleikr. Rounding out my collection, chipping away at my #VikingMusic wishlist.

Topic of who is/isn't saved in Christianity.

Wife: I refuse to accept that some innocent [outsider], living a decent life, would be damned because he hadn't heard of Jesus.

Mom, evangelical: Well, that's how it goes sometimes.

Me: Is your God the god of the world or the god of a religion?

Very sick today. Usually I'm isolated and apart, but last week were a couple family occasions and I necessarily caught something. This doesn't encourage me to be social.

My lovely wife made a lovely pot of chicken soup, so I've got that going for me.

It's Viking Camps #FindsFriday! I've had a few weeks away, with both the Jorvik Festival and half term, so we'll get back to it today... and in honour of yesterday's World Book Day (heavily norse-themed in this household) I thought we'd look at a find with some writing.

This is Torksey DB 1620. /1

I want to start a new blog, one in which I work through and share my studies, and I'll talk to people about what drew them to #OldNorse culture, arts, spirituality, etc.

But I'm not an academic, I'm just some guy. I question what I'd add to the conversation and my impulse to constantly broadcast.

I had deleted my IG for about a year, started up a new one when I began studying Old Norse, hoping to find some information or inspiration. I'm still deciding how much I'm actually getting out of it. Neat things to see but no interaction.

Struggling to expand my Mastodon instance's federation. There just aren't a lot of #OldNorse and #ScandiMyth accounts there. I've found some legitimate researchers and academics, but like this place, they largely seem to terminate in 2022.
