If you didn't notice, this argument is part of me trying to help my parent downsize. It would be easier if it cost less!
I'm not complaining to elders. Get that out of your head. I am trying to HELP them, but you are stuck at an argument nobody is making, so you can cry some sort of eugenics.
Those who don't want the help don't have to move. This isn't mandatory.
It does free up housing. My parent have 3 unused bedrooms in their house, that a big family could make good use of.

It's much more unkind to tell all the young people desperate for housing that we aren't going to do even this little thing to help them because it might make the odd senior feel a bit bad. Even as it helps many other seniors. Fuck all those people, right?
Yup. You may notice nobody is suggesting some sort of mandatory relocation of seniors and seizing their homes. This is just to help people who want to downsize to be able to do so.
Or we can keep doing the exact same thing we are now, which has not caused a housing crisis.
You can subsidize them by helping them with rent, or you can subsidize them by making everybody else pay more for housing so a senior can live in a house with 3 unused bedrooms.
I think you managed to find a lot of people determined to drive up housing prices. The idea that we could get some people to move into smaller houses when their needs go down shouldn't be this engaging.
