I have cast my vote for @avilewis.ca today to be the next federal NDP leader. I have witnessed how his campaign is a spillover of a broader social political movement to fight against fascism. This struggle is rooted in love for a different world, and solidarity as love made visible.
When I visited northern Syria, I learned of the vital healthcare services like dialysis care for people with chronic kidney disease or kidney failure. This is lifesaving care for people, made possible because of helpers like SEMA.

Again, in 2026, we are sending a boat to join with many other campaigns in a joint and coordinated effort to challenge the blockade and to demonstrate that the people of Gaza are not alone in their struggle for justice.

But above all, we have sent ships to challenge Israel’s inhumane and illegal blockade of Gaza.
The Canadian Boat to Gaza has been challenging the Israeli blockade since 2011. We have sent ships to raise awareness of the crimes being committed in Gaza and to provide humanitarian and medical aid to the beleaguered citizens of Gaza.
On this International Women’s Day, I am thinking of the women in my life who have helped shape me. Like my mom, they are gentle and fierce warriors. Their strength, courage, and love has informed me in the struggle against patriarchy and for gender equality.
Israel has been attacking hospitals and health facilities in Iran. Their policy and practice of targeting and destroying healthcare in Palestine as a method of unlawful and immoral warfare is being exported and used on Iran.
I think anyone with a heart would be truly against fuelling an economy of militarism and genocide if they actually understood the human and environmental costs of war.
Speak up and organize, despite fear and repression. Our courage to push through is what makes us human. Our commitment to human rights for all, is what makes us human.
Speak truth to power. Even if your voice trembles, and your knees shake. Believe me, I have been there.
Stay soft and tender. With hearts open to hold the suffering of our fellow human kin. We have enough love to hold it all. What you might experience upon bearing witness to the vast injustices and inequities this world has, is moral injury. It means you are human.
Your rage. Your anger. Your sorrow. Your grief. Is justified.
Do not let this world tell you a different one isn’t possible. Do not let this world tell you that some lives are worth less than others. Do not let this world push you towards apathy and inaction.
People with disabilities or who are differently abled. People who use drugs. People who are experiencing homelessness. People who are trans and queer. People who are immigrants and refugees. People who are Indigenous or Black or racialized.
I have seen how so many communities have come under attack, because of the politics of hate, dehumanization, and division.
There will be politicians and political parties and governments that will come and go, and tell us that some lives are not worth as much as others, or are not worth anything at all. These bad faith actors will tell us that for some people in this world to thrive, other people need to suffer.
I wish she could see how far I have come, but I know that her love, has been in part what has kept me going all these years. Because we are fuelled by love.
Because in a world that is fuelled by capitalism and colonialism, taking care of people and communities is a radical act of defiance against a system that wants to see us all fall in line and remain silent in the face of injustice.
I remember explaining to her I wanted to study and practice medicine and public health because there is something special about caring for people and communities, and working to address the broader and more structural conditions that lead to poor health outcomes.
I dreamt of my grandmother last night. She was one of my best friends. She passed away during my medical school training.
I have seen how institutions and people in authority positions put the interests of the rich and powerful, systems and structures of colonialism and capitalism, and economies of death, destruction, and genocide over the interests of the people and communities they are supposed to serve and care for.
Over the past few years, I have seen the worst of humanity and its best.
When I first met Avi, he gave me the biggest hug. There was a kind of love that I felt then, and in here with you all today, which is the love that fuels social political movements to be sustainable, ever lasting, and intergenerational.
I want to share with you some of the words I shared at the @avilewis.ca event in Ottawa.
We are fuelled by love. For a different world that we will organize and fight for. This work is lifelong. This work is intergenerational. Thank you all for being a part of it, and thank you Team Avi for showing us what is possible when we build together towards human rights for all. ❤️
This movement that Team Avi has been building for many months is part of a broader social political movement, that is ultimately fighting back against fascism, and defending and fighting for human rights for all.
Really incredible energy in Ottawa last night for Team @avilewis.ca. A different world is possible. Our love is an infinite thing.
Another world is truly possible. Stop funding wars and genocide. Fund healthcare, education, housing and so much more that actually helps people not just survive, but thrive.
