It would be nice if people remembered this piece of wisdom from the greatest economics tweet in history (and the one I am most insanely jealous of not having written, especially because it was a reply to me).
Pretty crazy how important the blockade of a trade route is right now
I wrote an abstract; it's supposed to be 700 words long; it's 1000 words long; now I am suffering
Serkis' rendition of Legolas singing of Nimrodel made be genuinely so sad. Didn't think that was possible before.
I did not think it possible, but Andy Serkis' audiobook of Lord of the Rings has made me love the books even more, and in all new ways. For once, I think I never have really appreciated all the songs properly before. It's magical!
You're not a moral realist. You just have low self-esteem and a pathological need for validation from external sources.
Kafka's "The Castle"
I feel like the Graeber experience is:
(1) heβs talking generally: well this is interesting and makes sense
(2) heβs talking about something you know about: oh no
The three Spidermen meme. The labels are Council of Europe, European Council, and Council of the European Union
That was always the best bit of teaching European Politics. Happy days.
I feel like David Graeber really captured something about lefty academia because the concept of βbullshit jobβ is very resonant and has a lot of intuitive appeal but his exploration of it is totally hamstrung by the fact that heβs never left campus and is very vague on the mechanics of actual work

Bauen die da das Batmobil nach?!
It really exemplifies how being convincing can be a virtue of philosophical writing all by itself
I'm probably pretty late to the game, but damn, Charles Mills' "The Racial Contract" is a good book. It's just perfectly written for what it's attempting to do

Hard to concentrate on academic work when war rages and spreads, and all my thoughts are with the innocent people who die, are wounded, or are made homeless.
This is something I wrestle with a lot - on the whole, things are awful not just because *stuff happens*, but because people have chosen for them to be this way. I'm not really sure what to do with that.
John Brown didnβt give up on Kansas & Iβll be damned if I ever do.
Can anybody recommend a good comic or graphic novel that features a dytopian bureaucracy of some kind? #GraphicNovels #Comics
