The axe seemed to like being touched." Barker's stories artfully clutch at the mythic, the writing is magnificent, and the characters tend to get what they deserve. What I love most about these stories is that they are not afraid to wade into the darkest zones humanity has to offer, with plot and interiority. We go far into The Fantastique and yet the tales remain believable down the stretch. They'll kick in your mental doorways and say - heeeeere's Clive! You should scream but you'll wanna see what he's brought with him.
