It just sickens me the way everybody is completely closed off to anything they deem "cringe". Smile is a song about earnest joy and optimism in the face of hardship and despair, so of course everyone hates and resents it for not being as ironic, hopeless, and jaded as they are.

The reaction to this quest, the sentiment of it, and the song they made for it was a truly blackpilling moment for me on FFXIV's community. It truly reflects the cynicism and cruelty of American media discourse. Despite that, I know there are still good, normal people to be found in this game.
