How does the United Arab Emirates’ financing of the Rapid Support Forces perpetuate political violence against civilians in Sudan? Author: Trisha SayalJuly 16, 2025IntroductionWith each passing minute, the situation in Sudan grows more dire. The conflict between the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), and the...

The UAE is also solidly alleged to be funding the annihilation of Sudanese people via weapons provision and financial support to the RSF.

Agree, a helpful, poignant perspective. "There has always been infighting among Iranians in the diaspora. The community has never been monolithic. It spans monarchists and leftists, secular nationalists and devout Muslims, people who left last year and people who left in 1979. What has changed...

Not questioning it - just interested.

Carbon dioxide (COβ‚‚) averaged about 429 ppm in February 2026. Note that I also just updated my annual mean growth rate plot for 2025 on my personal climate indicators website.

10 years ago February averaged about 404 ppm.

Why miserable Sandy? You always seem to soak up as much good as possible in your travels. It's rare to hear you sound less than delighted.

Now think about an EV instead. The sun produces energy by fusing hydrogen atoms into helium. It travels 93 million miles in about eight minutes and 20 seconds (seven seconds more when our orbit takes us furthest away). Those photons then strike the silicon atoms in a photovoltaic panel, knocking loose electrons that produce a stream of direct current electricity; an inverter, now usually contained in the panel, converts that to AC power, which can be pumped directly into the battery of an EV where the motor uses electromagnetism to create a rotating magnetic field in a stator, which spins the inner rotor to propel the car. There are about 20 moving parts in the engine, and it is 80 to 90 percent efficient. There is no exhaust and almost no noise. That’s it. And if you poured those electrons into an e-bike instead of an EV, it’s even better: a penny’s worth of power is good for three miles or so. The same principles apply to electric buses, electric ferries, and so on.

Can you add unkeyed bolts to those doors as a second line defence?

08.03.2026 19:57 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Worrying.
But, if the doors are bolted inside, they shouldn't open from outside, even with a key.
If they were just locked, not bolted, and you think someone may have found and taken a spare key, get the lock changed asap.

If the tail is cup shaped, it reminds me most of an eye wash cup.
Even the fish body is eye like if you see the detail as lashes rather than fins.

Neither did he. He learns best from personal experience and immersion.
As an adult, he's self-supporting, has lost most of the narrow views he accumulated through school, learned a new language, travelled and lived in fascinating places and collected friends from everywhere.

Isn't it!
Kid tells me his Spanish is pretty fluent now but he needs to learn to listen better.
My very tactful response was that we probably all do, regardless of the language we're speaking.

Tehran has been discussing the likely need to abandon the city and move the capital due to the lack (and declining volume) of water.
The loss of a desal plant would be significant anywhere in Iran.

Lemon verbena infusion.
Crush the leaves, steep in boiling water and chill.
Good hot or cold.
Ditto Mentha australis.
Easy at home of course, not so when out in the world.

Do you think much has changed Victoria?
Perhaps some people are more aware their comments are on a permanent record and, may come back to haunt them if they're stated publicly but, I don't believe the underlying misogyny has decreased at all in the last 2 decades.

Even if we shared just basic conversational phrases, it might help to decrease the 'othering' that's so damaging.

I was chatting with my son (living in Colombia) yesterday as he was on his way to a language exchange bar. You find people happy to chat in the language you're learning. I think we could adopt the idea here - so many languages spoken.

I assumed I'd inherited my nanna's (5ft 11). I hit 5ft 4 somewhere between 10 and 11 and that was it. A lifelong disappointment beyond the nuisance value of most tools being designed for someone 5ft 10 with large hands (mine are stupidly small).
