This is what we're fighting for.
Ancient gorges, Australia's 2nd-oldest nature reserve (164+ bird species), world-class wineries, Wiradjuri sacred sites, productive farms.
Coal threatens it all. This is worth protecting.

'One of the most successful wildlife comeback stories': The Alps lost its vultures - then it got them back Decades after its release into the wild, a super-ageing, bone-crunching vulture called Balthazar reveals a major conservation success.

"A very beautiful story."

How the Alps lost its bone-breaker vultures - then got them back.

Few things are as uplifting as the return of wild nature.

I'd prefer to see a solid commitment to no new or expanded sites, a complete withdrawal of public subsidy (need a road or other infrastructure? pay for it), and, a short timeline for exiting current gas/coal extraction.

Not a koala entry but, while I understand the desire to tax this industry, I see it as counter productive. Governments earning big money from any source won't easily shut that source down (gambling is a good example) and, are more likely to expand the industry.

Commercial rat baits to be banned from supermarket shelves Rat baits could soon be restricted to licensed operators, after a change in regulations from the Australian Pesticides and Vetinary Medicines Authority.

Excellent! Well overdue!

I hope it becomes a permanent ban Australia-wide, except for under very extreme and specific circumstances, as judged and implemented by genuine experts in pest and wildlife management www.abc.net.au/news/2026-03...

Carbon dioxide (COβ‚‚) averaged about 429 ppm in February 2026. Note that I also just updated my annual mean growth rate plot for 2025 on my personal climate indicators website.

10 years ago February averaged about 404 ppm.

Now think about an EV instead. The sun produces energy by fusing hydrogen atoms into helium. It travels 93 million miles in about eight minutes and 20 seconds (seven seconds more when our orbit takes us furthest away). Those photons then strike the silicon atoms in a photovoltaic panel, knocking loose electrons that produce a stream of direct current electricity; an inverter, now usually contained in the panel, converts that to AC power, which can be pumped directly into the battery of an EV where the motor uses electromagnetism to create a rotating magnetic field in a stator, which spins the inner rotor to propel the car. There are about 20 moving parts in the engine, and it is 80 to 90 percent efficient. There is no exhaust and almost no noise. That’s it. And if you poured those electrons into an e-bike instead of an EV, it’s even better: a penny’s worth of power is good for three miles or so. The same principles apply to electric buses, electric ferries, and so on.
