The primary problem with peerages is, imo, political appointments in terms of handing them to donors, allies, and the general cronyism of it all, far more of a concern. We really still need a fully elected and much smaller second chamber, one free of party politics. I'd go so far as to ban donors.

The direct link between a lack of education and voting Reform cannot be ignored.

These people have no sense of critical thinking.

Same clowns who fawned over β€œBoris” and β€œTrump” and voted Brexit will suffer collective amnesia and a separation from reality and vote this poisonous gimp.

All very well but what are they going to replace them with?

If it is not a fully elected upper chamber, but more party yes men and donors given a seat for life, is that really any progress?

Just replacing the undemocratic and archaic with the undemocratic and corrupt.

That Starmer keeps Mahmood in post shows this is not just the actions of an inhumane Home Secretary, but a deeper rooted ideology of hostility and xenophobia within this government. No-one benefits from blocking Chevening scholars. This is cruelty for sake of it.

Not niche at all.

A Northern delicacy.

Bachelors make tins of Mushy Peas and making them is easy enough to do at home.

Fish & Chips without Mushy Peas is anathema in the North.

We used to have a Pie & Pea (Mushy Peas obvs) Van come around the village on Thursday evenings when l was a lad.

The Hinkley C UK nuclear reactor will produce 3.2GW, it will cost Β£50bn.

For that the UK could have built 40GW of Wind Turbines in 1/5th of the time.

Which would even on the least windy days of the year produce TWICE as much electricity.

Nuclear is an unnecessary RIPOFF.

I had this over & over again when I complained to BBC during the referendum campaign about a specific issue (coverage of Obama's 'back of queue' comment): endless replies responding to different points/ ignoring, missing or refusing to address my precise complaint. Exhausting & dispiriting.

Looking at Sackman's Wiki page, it is obvious that she would never condemn lsrael's genocide actions in Gaza, or it's attacks on Lebanon or Iran.

Like Bravermann, given Silk after a political legal appointment (Solicitor General) rather than the usual way.

Another Blue Labour ingrate.

Shouldn't she be pointing out the numerous campaigns against civilians Israel does? Israel is currently targeting civilians in Lebanon, Gaza, West Bank, and Iran.

What is it with people in the UK government not calling this out? What are they afraid of? πŸ€”

As I try to point out in my forthcoming piece for the print edition of Byline Times, Trump’s Christian Zionists are actually deeply antisemitic. They want Jews to provoke the Second Coming by fighting Muslims, and then they will be damned in the β€˜rapture’ if they don’t convert
