"Are you here... to play?"
(No joke though, she's one of my fav NPCs ever and I love her so much. β₯)
an LLM is a compiler in the same way that a slot machine is an ATM
Ah, memories. I'd contributed to the bingo sheet we used during, if my memory serves. :)
Forced to use AI at work, hate it. Usage is monitored so I can't avoid it. I've set up mine to play a Sim City clone. It burns through tokens, making crap cities that quickly go bankrupt. Just been told that I'm getting a bonus for being a top user.
At my workplace, there was a working group thingie where they were trying to figure out why people don't use AI more. The person leading it was utterly baffled when I brought up the serious ethical concerns some of us have.
We lost the normies hard. :/
Please god do this I'm so sorry I can't feed and house every trans girl on my own we need cis people to do this there just aren't enough of us
Moreover, ICE must be destroyed

Thank you!
I don't think that's happening, is what I'm trying to say. Not anymore. By god I hope there'll be a correction and a culling (and I hope OpenAI goes the fuck *down*) but I don't think we're going back to a no-LLMs world. :/
We do need absolutist conscientious objectors, but I'm worried that's going to be a tough, isolating position. And that sucks.
I know... That just might be tough. As of this month I feel like we didn't just lose that battle, we lost it decisively. The latest frontier models are now just part of normie SWEs' everyday life and that's, like... normal now.
And tech will defo lose out from your being gone... I hope the plan is still to keep doing personal projects and stuff like AoC? (If maybe on a private Forgejo instance to avoid scrapers. π©)
If you've not done this kind of puzzle before, you're not going to hit the ground running and that's 100% okay. What I usually do is watch Simon think aloud, pause, try to reproduce his line of thinking, progress, get stuck, unpause, watch some more, and so on.
(Cracked it in 8m45, which is VERY unusual. I'm not much good, usually.)
Okay, this is one of the most bonkers-ass sudoku-like puzzles I've seen. Check it out.

If you're drawing a complete blank (which, 100% legit), just watch Simon solve it, it's cool, that's what I usually do, and he's a delight.

Staff at the nationβs largest Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention facility have placed bets on which detainee will be the next to die by suicide, according to new reporting from the Associated Press based on 911 calls and detainee accounts.
It's cold this time of year
While we sit around to find out how bad exactly it all is, a bit of cheer: the best baguette of Paris competition was won by a Sri Lankan who appears to have started as a dish washer in restaurants and eventually trained as a Boulanger.

I'm glad that you're getting help for things you feel you need help with, but just as one anecdotal data point, I think you're cool and I like you. β₯
I just wish I could do a full-time PhD or DrPH at this point. But I had to leave a PhD program due to illness and those incompletes did become an F.
I was straight As until then, though ... anyone in public health looking to take on a PhD student? I'm an experienced researcher and analyst!

If you're doomscrolling, guess what? So far there are 51 kΔkΔpΕ chicks hatched and thriving this season, the same number of birds as we had in TOTAL in the 90s! Only one chick has died and there are still fertile eggs waiting to hatch!
You can compile a C program with gcc, clang, or whatever MS is doing these days, and get functionally the same result. Not so with prompt-to-code via LLM, and that's a *problem*.
!!! Wow!
A top-down closeup photo of a pale yellow flower with serrated-tip petals, with the ground and leaves below out of focus. There are two little moths in the flower; the moths have a fuzzy gray thorax, and cream-colored wings with thin bands and edges of deep pink.
These pretty, day-flying moths (Heliolonche pictipennis), only about 1 cm. long, are one of my favorite desert spring insects. The only flowers they visit (desert dandelion, desert chicory, or scale bud) close up at night; the moths sleep inside them, which is scientifically adorable. #BugSky πΏππΌ
The invite only period of BlueSky really did feel like one big queer, trans, and furry block party. And it's why some of us did feel a bit defensive when the TwiX exodus started, and we saw peeps coming in declaring the site was 'finally alive'. It had pulsed to its own beat for over a year.
kill the imposter syndrome in you head because not only is there someone out there doing it worse than you, they're also using chat gpt to do it
Anyways.
Say it ain't so, I was promised Anthropic were the ethical guys! π
Does this exist with prominent open weights as well? Qwen3.5 seems to be packing a punch, but my feeling is that some of it comes from disproportionate expenditure of reasoning tokens.
