If I had a nickel for every time Franz Ferdinand was involved in the precursor events of a world war, Iβd have two nickels, which isnβt a lot, but itβs weird it happened twice
I've been concerned about this for weeks now. The new SPC intensity product has HUGE potential for miscommunication. Literally 3 days in, we have a perfect example: Local Media on the day of a deadly EF3 advertising **no risk** of significant tornadoes - directly amplifying the SPC's new product.
Yep. My grandparents were raising kids in the 1950s. My maternal grandfather was a scientist and grandma was a secretary for Coors. My paternal grandfather was military, then worked for prisons. And grandma worked all different jobs, including school lunch lady, King Soopers bakery, Cracker Barrel.

The big story from this winter is the record heat across the West, which helped to drive a historic snow drought (even despite some areas of heavier precipitation). We'll be covering this and more in our next monthly webinar at @climatecentral.org. Sign up at: www.climatecentral.org/climate-brie...
"Very old." Rude.
40 years?! Ugh, I feel old!! Looking at it now, Welcome Home (Sanitarium) might be my favorite.

Northern CO Front Range getting much needed moisture today... in the form of rain. Which gets me thinking about how many rain events we've had in the past few months.
There used to be a time where precip was only snow between Nov - Apr. Or extremely rare. It's happened quite a bit this year!

I wonder if this will actually help streamline some of these products more - 1-3 day, 4-7 day, 6-10 day, 8-14 day and hazards outlooks for both.
NOAA has rated the February 22-24, 2026 Nor'easter a Category 3 (out of 5) on the Regional Snowfall Index (RSI) scale.
This places it as the #17 most impactful snow storm event - based on total snowfall, storm size, and societal impact - for the Northeast since 1900.
We need more than IPCC: The IPCC is crucial for assessing climate-change science but is a politically-constrained summary of ONLY the most inarguable core of the science. A GLOBAL RISK ASSESSMENT is needed to clarify the real range of risks & priorities for action.

Having done so much of my academic training with IDL and Matlab, R was a game changer for me. I still use it sometimes. But learning Python has been essential too. I agree that if you only learn one, go with Python.
This is so much better than Big Macβs at the WH!

In my analysis of the latest winter storm, I take a look at all the stations that broke or tied a record for most snowfall in a single storm. That's right, Providence wasn't the only record!
Here we see it helped some stations break monthly snowfall records too.

Excellent foreshadowing. I'm like, why is there so much white space beyond the average area? π«
We use 30 year averages to show climatology (average weather conditions). During the 20th century the UK climatology followed a path around a confined box. With #globalwarming and #climatechange they have escaped out the box. This #dataviz shows UK rainfall and temperature.
