I learned about a brilliant project yesterday to support British Sign Language (BSL) users, creating new signs for scientific terms in chemistry, oceanography, data science & more.
And they're fabulously descriptive. Do have a look and share!

πInvasive species cause such diverse ecological impacts that we needed to broaden the lens used to classify their effects. Very happy with the collaborative and progressive nature of this work, integrating previous efforts and helping fill key gaps after years of worldwide effort!
Wow, so that really happened! It seemed like a weird fever dream....
Lots of challenges and excitement since deciding to move back to Ireland and establish Atomic Ecology but getting to pass through Dublin on a sunny spring morning is definitely good for the soul
If stable isotopes are part of your research, they should be one of your strengths β not something you βsort ofβ understand.
Thatβs why I built this course.

skin values didn't change. A comparison of both tissues can help to estimate time since death and skin data provides a decomposition resistant signature of diet or location!
New paper with the one and only Dr. Kelly Miles! Rare application of soft tissue in iso forensic studies. Kelly measured δ¹³C and δ¹β΅N in human skin and muscle during the first ~20 days of decomp finding that muscle δ¹β΅N increased rapidly, but....

I think we all are tbh.....
Most isotope users were never formally trained in isotope ecology.
They learned just enough to get by.
That gap shows up later β usually during interpretation.
Thatβs exactly what my course is designed to fix.
Stellar, enjoy!

In many R courses, data are clean & everything just works.
But real life is messyβand thatβs where problems start

Later this week I'll be chatting with Kurt Samways for the next Atomic Ecology Meets - If you like your isotopes with Atlantic salmon, marine derived nutrients, innovative restoration and large dollop of Canadian nice, then this one is for you! youtu.be/mLrugYqLBh4
Always happy to chat and discuss specific applications tailored to your specific needs. www.atomicecology.com/nitrate
This shorts user guide is a useful first step for catchment and environmental managers eager to address eutrophication and associated impacts on their watercourse. It covers some of the essential science, how to apply it and how Atomic Ecology can help.
Europe has a nitrate problem - essential to our agriculture but harmful to freshwater and coastal habitats, nitrate pollution has become fact of life. Isotopes have a huge, but largely untapped, potential to identify point sources of nitrate and also estimate where that nitrate originated.
Last chance to join the best, in-person stable isotope ecology course there is - The Survivors Guide to Stable Isotope Ecology! We have a great selection of instructors, a phenomenal venue and time to discuss your work 1:1 amongst lectures and data tutorials www.exedramc.com/courses/surv...
Upskilling for 2026, or just looking to add a new technique to your research armoury? I have two self-paced courses available through Atomic Ecology covering all the essential information required to analyse and interpret stable isotope data!
