๐ Met James Murray, Exchequer Secretary, to discuss East Midlands investment: Junction 24 M1, Ratcliffe-on-Soar, and Midland Mainline electrification. Excited to see these projects boost connectivity, growth, and opportunities across the region.

๐ฐ Rushcliffe Borough Council holds up to ยฃ50m in developer contributions, part of a ยฃ9bn national pot. I raised this in Parliament and am drafting a Bill to give councils more control, boost accountability, and ensure promised infrastructure is delivered before costs skyrocket.
๐ญ๐ฐ I want to keep all my constituents up to date with whatโs happening both locally and in Westminster. Alongside my weekly online newsletter, I also produce an update for Rushcliffeโs Hongkonger community.

Itโs been a busy week locally ... from sorting tax refunds and visas to liaising with housing providers.

๐ง Road closures shouldnโt cut communities off from the places they rely on every day.
Thatโs why Cllr Butler and I have written to Cadent Gas to raise our concerns about the simultaneous closures affecting Cotgrave, Tollerton and surrounding villages.
โป๏ธ The Big Plastic Count is here! For one week starting today, thousands of people will be counting every piece of plastic packaging they throw away. Together, weโll uncover the true scale of the UKโs big plastic problem.

๐ฐ Last week I attended a drop-in on local news. The #EastMidlands ranks 9/12 UK regions for number of outlets, with #Rushcliffe called a โrelative news desertโ as the independent West Bridgford Wire bucks the trend. We must all support local journalism.
๐ท Happy International Womenโs Day
Today we celebrate the strength, kindness, resilience, and achievements of women in Rushcliffe and beyond. Thank you to the women who inspire us, support us, and make the world a better place every day.
๐ฃ Good news for the East Midlands: the Governmentโs Connect to Work programme is expanding with ยฃ300m to help people who are sick, disabled or facing barriers into jobs. Our region will receive ยฃ44.1m, supporting around 12,000 people with tailored help into work.
๐ I raised a parliamentary question on what more is being done to protect taxi drivers in Nottinghamshire and across the UK from abuse.
The transport minister confirmed itโs unacceptable and a priority to tackle. Taxi drivers deserve to feel safe at work. Read more: tinyurl.com/2ber5a4f
๐กMany of you have contacted me about park homes. Iโve been working locally and nationally to support residents and end the unfair 10% commission paid to site owners when homes are sold. Ahead of a debate I secured this spring, share your views by 29 May here: tinyurl.com/yc5y3vwh
๐ Sustainable, reliable public transport is important if we want growth to benefit people across Rushcliffe. With Cllr Gowland, Iโve written to East Midlands Mayor welcoming the feasibility study into extending the NET tram network into Rushcliffe to support connectivity and sustainable growth.
๐ฃ Given the mediaโs role in shaping politics, the government must take responsibility in this space. On Monday I raised this in Parliament, and a colleague highlighted that journalists, especially women, face threats. If we want to protect public debate, we must protect those who take part in it.
๐ฎ๐ฏ Tell me about Royal Mail issues across Rushcliffe.
Thanks to everyone who contacted my office about delivery problems. Iโve visited depots, spoken with staff, raised this in parliament and with the minister.

๐ธ๐จ Happy Holi to everyone in Rushcliffe and beyond!
Wishing you a day full of colour, laughter and time well spent with the people who matter most. May this special festival bring fresh energy, new beginnings and plenty of reasons to smile.
๐ฑ Councils should have the power to protect communities from gambling harm. Thatโs why Iโve added my name to a cross-party letter on โAim to Permitโ. Weโve now received a response outlining new Cumulative Impact Assessments and a commitment to reducing gambling harm. This conversation must continue.
๐ธ It was good to meet Marissa from St Peterโs in parliament again today.
I've been really impressed how Rushcliffe schools are teaching the fundamentals of different parliamentary systems, and hope to see more ambassadors down here next year.

๐๐ป๐ก Big win for leaseholders in #Rushcliffe.
I welcome plans to cap ground rents at ยฃ250 a year, reducing to a peppercorn in future. This will put money back into the pockets of families and pensioners and is a major step towards a fairer leasehold system.
Today I signed the Holocaust Educational Trustโs Book of Commitment for Holocaust Memorial Day. We remember the six million Jews murdered, honour survivors, and all persecuted by the Nazis. I pledge to remember, reflect, and speak out against antisemitism and all hatred. #HolocaustMemorialDay

๐ถ๐พ Animal rescue centres shouldnโt rely on goodwill alone. Many meet high care standards while struggling to stay open. In #Rushcliffe, the Radcliffe Animal Centre costs around ยฃ800,000 a year to run and is funded independently. If weโre serious about regulation, we need proper funding.
๐ถ๐ผ Iโve just met with #NHS midwives to talk about maternity services which, as we know too well locally, are under a lot of pressure. Given the understandable noise that must be investigated properly, it's easy to forget there are lots of brilliant staff working hard to support mothers and babies.

๐ No student should suffer because the law is unclear...
Yesterday, I led a Westminster Hall debate on whether universities should have a statutory duty of care for student wellbeing and safety. While mental health challenges are rising, legal protections havenโt kept pace.
Beijingโs plan for a mega-embassy in central London threatens the safety of 700,000 Hongkonger, Chinese, Tibetan and Uyghur communities. A 2018 PM pledge of โno delaysโ raises doubts over planning independence. I urge rejection and will keep campaigning.

The Government has confirmed ยฃ6.7 million for active travel in #Nottinghamshire over the next four years, including repairs to the #Radcliffe - #Cotgrave Greenway.
The problem is recognised, the funding is secured. Now we need a clear plan and timeline to reopen this key traffic-free route.
๐ฐ ๐ฒ Gambling harm is damaging lives and high streets. Iโve added my name to a cross-party letter backing a 10 Minute Rule Bill to end the outdated โaim to permitโ principle and give councils real power to protect communities and put people before profit.
๐ ๐ As the new year takes off, hereโs the last 12 months in numbers...
Behind every stat is a conversation, a concern or an issue that matters to somebody local. Iโm proud to be there for you.
Hereโs to a happy, healthy New Year and another year of getting things done. โ
