Just finished @jeffvandermeer.bsky.social’s Southern Reach trilogy. I’ll probably read Absolution at some point, but right now I feel like I need to sit with the lack of easy answers.

I think Kingsnorth is onto something, but his discussion of science in Chaoter VII of “Against The Machine” needs more nuance www.danielmoch.com/posts/2026/01/…

Wait, so lunch sides today are potato salad *and* potato chips? Not a choice but both?
Sorry I missed this!
Hey #KubeCon, be extra kind to the staff today. One of them I chatted with yesterday whispered to me that people were giving them a hard time today
Sometimes I get the feeling “fun” is a sanitized word technologists use when they mean “addictive.”
Even at #KubeCon the demo gods refuse to smile
Excited to participate in the Public Sector BoF at #KubeCon later today. Stop by if you’re interested in how the public sector is adopting cloud native technologies!

Yeah, I’m thinking “local” dev. If you move far enough left folks usually start stripping out mechanisms, and even if that’s unavoidable to some degree I wonder if keeping the policy/mechanism distinction in mind might help drive healthier choices
Dev-Prod Parity has been a thing since 12factors, but I wonder if that can only be accomplished if limited to mechanism. Policies really need to change between dev and prod, no?
So far Atlanta’s #KubeCon makes Detroit’s seem Bahamian by comparison.
Be careful who you emulate. The desire to change the world can lead either to service or hubris.
If you’re in the area, reach out and let me know. It would be great to make some connections in the area!

Orlando had treated us well, and we are leaving behind a lot of close friends, but overall there is a lot of optimism that DFW will feel like home before long.
This won’t be news to anyone I have spoken to over the past few weeks, but my family and I have relocated from Greater Orlando to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. It is a good career move for me, but what sealed the deal was my family’s excitement about moving to the area.
Looking forward to publication version 4 of NIST SP 800-63B so I can point every IT organization to section 3.1.1.2 and tell them to stop making me periodically change my password csrc.nist.gov/pubs/sp/800/...
Just sat down to host a speaker office hour at #OSSummit. I’ll be here until 11. Come and find me behind the escalators if you want to talk s3c!
Speaking at #OSSummit today on software supply chain security in the public sector. Check it out if you’re around!

Yeah, it doesn’t have container-level isolation, and one hopes macOS Containers will “just work” in a way Lima can’t boast, but still, I’ve successfully used the latter *behind an inspecting proxy*. That takes some real flexibility, and it’s all there.
I’m as excited about macOS Containers as anyone, but I also think the fine folks at lima-vm.io deserve credit for already putting together a great solution for Docker on macOS
I think a sandwich requires bread. Do wedge salads typically include croutons?
