This young doe froze absolutely still at sunrise, banking on her natural defense mechanism to make the human (me) disappear.

It's officially the start of Piping Plover season in New England. The nesting areas for these mini puffballs are very highly protected around here - with many miles of coastal beaches shut down to public access from April through September.

Got lucky this morning with a nice shot of a snowy owl lit up in the morning sun as it banked over the dunes!
It was a cold morning (~12*F) but worth the frozen fingers.

Short eared owl perched in golden light.
Managed to get a great shot of this short eared owl as it paused for 30 seconds before frantically flying off again to resume its hunt. Photographing these owls is always a challenge - and I love it!
