Probabilistic WSSI, probability of major overall impacts zoomed in on the northeast. Values above 50% stretch from southern NJ into Boston, with the highest values over Rhode Island and eastern Massachusetts.
Probabilistic WSSI probabilities of major impacts, zoomed in over NWS Boston's forecast area. A sharp gradient in probability is seen from northwest to southeast.
A blizzard is forecast across most of the I-95 corridor north of Philly tomorrow into Monday. Major to extreme impacts looking increasingly likely. WPC's probabilistic WSSI has some of the higher values I can remember!

The U.S. NWS is a truly world-class meteorological predictive service, perhaps singularly so. Its cost of operation is only ~$3-4/yr per taxpayerβequivalent to a single cup of coffeeβand yields a truly remarkable return on investment (at least 10 to 1, and perhaps 100 to 1).
