That is a fair, and extremely sad, point.
That is a fair, and extremely sad, point.
If you don't want to listen, get out of my replies.
Sorry, but you haven't experienced what we in BC have. Entire towns gone. Hundreds of families homeless at once. Relentless disasters, year after year.
Yes, you've also had disasters. All of Canada. And that should make you somewhat aware of how bad it could get. We in BC already know.
And we can tie it to jobs. Clean energy jobs. We've been lazy in Canada. We rely on oil & mining because it was easy. We trade with the US because it was easy.
We need to transition to an entire new economy. Carney is helping to diversify away from the US. NDP can help to diversify away from oil.
At least half of those will be in BC. Van Island, suburban Vancouver, southern interior, and northwest BC.
Edmonton, Manitoba, and northern Ontario, also. Quebec and southern Ontario are doubtful, but possible. Atlantic Canada is unlikely in the short term, but you never know.
Firstly, anything above 1% of the vote is significant.
Secondly, you are talking out your a*s if you think NDP is dropping from 6% to 1%.
NDP will likely have 15-20 seats after the next election.
If people in Ontario had endured the climate disasters that we in BC have endured, the views on such subjects might be different.
Everyone of those workers in southern Ontario is paying more taxes so we can rebuild communities that have been destroyed by flood & wildfire. Something to think about.
Absolutely correct. And in 2025, they lost votes to the Liberals (progressives voted Carney to prevent Poilievre).
Lewis will need to be clear. The NDP role isn't to lead Canada. It's to be balance of power in parliament. We have dental, childcare, pharmacare etc for that reason.
I know this article is supposed to be critical of the @ndp.ca.
But...
"maybe [Avi's] unapologetically anti-corporate, anti-business, anti-establishment populism will resonate"
This sounds like a man for our time.

People need to stop thinking of Canadian politics as a two party race. It isn't.
There are 6 parties that get significant votes. And likely that either the Liberals or Cons will have a minority government. With the other 4 parties can provide the crucial votes in parliament.
The NDP is important.
That's a fair comment. And extremely sad.
Who knew that the Mad Hatter was woke?
But also, what better symbol of the UK than the national animal of one of its former colonies to put on the UK bank notes?
That isn't the definition of woke. It's the definition of colonialism. ;)

You could also mention that Trump killed 100+ children by bombing a school. For the rest of the world, that's pretty horrifying.
I know they weren't American children, so maybe Americans don't care about that...
Seems like the US regime spreading propaganda.
And why LA? It's the largest Iranian community in the US. Trump & Hegseth are trying to demonize Iranian-Americans to turn Angelenos against each other.
Instead, come together to fight the US regime. โ๐พ

1. Candidates who aren't beholden to corporations and lobby groups need to step forward.
2. You need to vote for them, not the old guard Dems.
3. If those candidates win, they need to reform your electoral system (campaign finance, redistricting, voter rolls, electoral college, etc).
But which King?
It's interesting there's 73 million Americans who live between North Carolina and Massachusetts, a majority of whom are Democrats, but there haven't been massive protests at the White House or Capitol.
It's almost as if Americans approve of King Trump.

I should also add that Americans have a problem with believing that it's the right of the US to police/bully the world. When you select new candidates, make sure they do not believe in a manifest destiny. And no, that's not just Trump.
Build a better US that isn't the world's bully.
Better, yes.
There are fundamental issues with US governance that need to be resolved, though. Kamala wouldn't have addressed the issues:
-Campaign finance
-Independent commission for redistricting
-Electoral college
-SCOTUS
Etc
Use this dark time to support candidates who will fix them.
No, because there isn't a professional association that acts as a disciplinary body. I was arguing that there should be.
Of course, employers could always discipline staff. But that would not likely be for public interest issues.
And he said he won't rule out participation, either. He said Canada would defend our allies if called upon. But hasn't clarified if "ally" means the US or NATO or economic partners like Qatar, etc.
Basically, he's been extremely unclear.
Look, I believe journalism has a problem. The public no longer values it as a profession. Since it's fundamental to democracy, that's a big problem, in my view. Other professions ensure public accountability through accreditation & professional oversight. That's all I'm saying. I'll leave it there.
If a member of a professional association screws up, they are penalized in some way. That also prevents other members from screwing up. There is incentive to be professional and ensure you don't make mistakes. It also gives the public faith in your profession. With journalism doesn't currently have.
I should add that a person who took a video is not any kind of journalist, they are a source. As in a source of information for an actual journalist to utilize.
Social media has ruined us. People think that they're "citizen journalists" when they're just some schmuck with a phone.
Should that person with a smartphone be allowed to call themselves a journalist? And if they do provide context that is not professionally responsible, how does that impact journalism as a whole?
Blurring of "citizen journalists" (not an actual thing) w/ actual journalism is not good for democracy.
A professional association could absolutely regulate journalism. Just as law, urban planning, and similar fields are regulated. In your example of NYT, there was no professional body ensuring those journalists were adhering to professional responsibility, ethics, and upholding the public interest.
Side note: LA and Vancouver (a 2.5-3.5 hr drive from Seattle, depending on border lineup) have the largest Iranian populations outside Iran. Surely many people from the Iranian community purchased tickets (at exorbitant prices) and now left in the lurch. The US have caused another sh*tty situation.
Welp.
Iran was scheduled to play 3 group stage matches in the US.
June 15 & 21 - LA
June 26 - Seattle
As many have suspected, that doesn't seem like it will happen.
This World Cup is a disaster for so many reasons.

I understand your position. I think you may be missing mine. But I'm going to leave it at that.
Literally people in my replies are suggesting exactly that - that anyone is a journalist.
What I'm saying is we should have two classes of news media:
-accredited journalists (who have to meet standards of conduct & ethics)
and
-non-accredited media who cannot call themselves journalists
