Seventeen Republicans appeared on the ballot, along with three Democrats.
Loved that book as a kid.
Good Morning! On this day, (Wednesday) March 11 in 1893, Wanda Gág was born. She was an American artist, author, translator, and illustrator. She is best known for writing and illustrating the children's book “Millions of Cats,” the oldest American picture book still in print. #Herstory
They're killing our neighbors. 🤬
Trump uses shoes to bully and demean his sycophants, daring them to wear anything else and face his wraith.
Don't worry, the President's worst impulses on war are being checked by his advisors who are afraid to tell him that the shoes he gave them are the wrong size
I'm Coastering up to Carlsbad this morning for a long ride back. This double-tracked section in upper Rose Canyon is where the trains usually pass each other. Southbound Amtrak Surfliner right here. 🚆
Vinay Prasad announced without evidence that COVID19 vaccines caused the deaths of 10 children.
Members of ACIP have made numerous false claims about how harmful they believe COVID19 vaccines are.
Now, ACIP won’t be discussing them because it’s political poison.
They were lying all along.
live your life in such a way that if you’re ever on trial you’re not so universally loathed that it’s impossible to find an unbiased jury
This is like the guy at work yelling, "I'm in charge!" 😬
IAFF sticker on a fire captain helmet.
I also always put a union sticker on my helmet. None of my bosses ever said a word (they were mostly all former union executive board members!). 👊😁
A fire captain helmet with writing on it.
Fire helmets.
One of my 🚒 favorite traditions was the written comments/well wishes on our final helmet. It's limited space, so first come, first served! I have one of each of my helmets (they have limited service life). 😁
has a reporter asked them why their shoes are too big and also is there a horse senator yet
I know I can’t eat the equivalent of a cost-of-living salary increase in coconut shrimp at this work function, but I can try.
At this point it's barely even a boycott, I've just stopped thinking of Target as a place to buy the things I used to buy at Target.
I don't miss Target at all, and that's a them problem.
I have deep, untapped wellsprings of petty. Whenever I make a large-ish purchase that I would have previously made at Target (e.g., stocking stuffers for all the kids) I use the feedback form on their site to tell them how much money they lost and exactly why they'll never see another dime from me.
This post is how I found out you can highlight a word on bluesky and look it up in the dictionary within the app. (I was highlighting “costermonger” to copy it over to the dictionary app to look it up.)
im grabbing your hand to tell you. it’s not too late to start wearing a mask again. it’s better to wear a mask 1/4 of the time (or whatever your percent looks like) than not at all. there’s no shame in starting to be covid safe again even if you havent been for a long time. its okay
Democrats are on the path to winning this year, but it is by default. The party has done a horrific job on politics from almost the minute Trump was defeated in 2020. So, sure, they are winning right now — but it’s because we have no other choices. Not exactly a ringing endorsement.
All the Democrats had to do was crib from the playbook the GOP used against Clinton, Obama, Biden. Instead they’ve been accommodationists to a fault. Sure they’re not fascists like the right, but they’re soft on fascism.
It’s not too late! You can start masking again anytime you want. Just decide to do it, and do it!
YA: "If you ask Americans if they want an apartment building next to them, they'll say now. But if you poll the same Americans an ask if you want to live in a town where young families can live, where workers can live, they want all those too."
Emphasis on better angels as *better angles*.
"This is everywhere a local problem, which is good, because it's not a problem you need Congress to fix. If you're waiting for Congress to fix it, good luck."
If we decide that we want to again be a society where people can move and have opportunity, we can get that back. We can choose that again.
The demographics, as Applebaum notes, are such that people who attend a talk on zoning are still far more mobile, and this lack of mobility is concentrated economically. Lots of people do want to stay where they are but what's dropped is the option for most anyone to move without massive wealth.
Asked how many people here live in the house where they were born and I was the only one who raised my hand, though big asterisk: I live in the home my family moved to when I was 1.5, and the house where my brother was born and still part-time resides.
"We elect our local officials, they make decisions, someone doesn't like the decision, they sue, it gets held up for five years. Something else happens, someone else sues, it takes another 5 years. It is a system that prevents bad things from happening, and it's very good at preventing good things."
"We've made it really hard to build the full diversity of housing types within a single community. We've made it impossible to build the kind of community Americans say they want."
