I do appreciate that ‘Haddocks’ isn’t quite seven layers deep btw, like some of my scribblings. Neither is the subject matter- this is light relief, not least from the Other Story. Later verses with better known characters get funnier- a couple have already written themselves.

Reform’s #Zahawi, a self confessed ‘big guy’ gets scared by a tired man on the streets of Chelsea, and Jim Ratcliffe says the UK is full of ‘tiny black holes’- think I heard that last correctly.

January 2026: On the home front, Robert #Jenrick and Suella #Braverman join the right-wing Reform UK from the Conservatives, three months out from the local elections. Probably just a co-incidence.

A short poem, but one of my favourites; written after the second #StateVisit of #TheDonald to the UK, in 2025. It was mostly at #Windsor Castle. Prior to the visit, #PresidentTrump had announced a new #ballroom would be built at the White House.

This was written after the first visit of #PresidentZelenskyy to the #Trump White House, where he was heckled by #Donald’s lackeys. It provided catharsis at a dark turn in #geopolitics; the core satirical point rests on what you know of #ChristopherSteele and certain #RitzCarlton rumours.

‘Amess’ was sadly written shortly after the assassination of MP #DavidAmess, and described a wasteland of #Brexit despondency. It’s a straight forward #poem, perhaps more reflective of what I understood of his character, and expressly written to counterbalance ‘Cashmere’, above.

This is a bit of a diversion from politics, but the connection was the 2019 #prorogation scandal, which included a high profile Tory delegation visiting #Balmoral to ‘mislead’ Queen Elizabeth. It’s probably the most researched poem I’ve written.
