Just saw the sad news that Captain Jim Lovell has died at 97 years old. He was the oldest former astronaut and an American hero.
I wouldn't say nothing to do with it, but I agree - its not like he was injured by a 3d printer. However it was in pursuit of the hobby that he was injured. I love to see that kind of curiousity and passion for making in kids.
I agree, news tends to go to "mainstream" ideas for general consumption. However for me the story is more about a young man who got hurt while pursuing a hobby we all enjoy. I am sure the community can come together to support him in not giving up on that. #3dprinting #maker #community
Hey maker community, I just saw this story out of NC about a kid seriously burned when working with 3d prints. There's a GoFundMe at the bottom of the story. Let's show them how much the maker community shows up, especially for a curious kid hurt in a freak accident. www.wral.com/news/local/l...

I've been wanting to do a similar project, but I really wish there were separate keys for mute and unmute instead of just Ctrl+Shift+M which is a toggle. With separate keys there wouldn't be a need to run any software on the computer, just HID only.
If you have questions or want to collaborate on that let me know! In any case, thanks again for the inspiration from a long time 99pi fan!
The person behind it, Jacek FedoryΕski, has a YouTube channel where they show off some accessibility uses of it. www.youtube.com/@HID_Remapper
I know from your article you like the TrackPoint - I do too! So I went looking for a solution that would let you continue using your existing Lenovo keyboard and found the "HID Remapper" which looks really promising! www.remapper.org
One thing I wanted to share is that many mechanical keyboards can run open source firmware (like QMK) which can support remapping layers directly in the keyboard, so you don't have to rely on PowerToys. It also means it works with other systems like Macs, iPads, really anything.
Your project is absolutely awesome and inspiring. I love how you have shared your own problem solving to help others. Being a geek, I find myself particularly drawn to what you've done with the "KURTY" keyboard.

So instead I fixtured the acrylic in place on the bed and did real light engraving passes with cleaning with a damp towel with a little dish soap on it in between passes. Worked great for me that way. Have fun and hope it turns out great!
Some of the manufacturers suggest turning off air assist but that can be bad for your lens and the makerspace I use doesn't allow it.
Since you haven't worked with it yet I'll suggest you make sure you run some test patterns before the real thing. Residue gets blown into the engraved part by the air assist and lasered on causing a dirty looking finish.
That's awesome, sounds like we have done similar stuff. If you have any problems with the multi-color engraving hit me up. It's a little different to work with
In case you haven't seen it there are multi-color acrylic sheets. You can engrave through a top layer to show the color underneath. Great for signs!

Uh-oh
Humble Bundle is running an incredible book bundle with all of the Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series, including the final books written by Brandon Sanderson. And best of all, the charity it is supporting is the ACLU!

I just finished attending Wild West Hackin' Fest Denver. This was an amazing conference full of knowledge, inspiration, and community. They have an upcoming conference in Deadwood, I would highly recommend attending if you are able! #cybersecurity #infosec
I haven't heard the ideas counter to it, but I would be very interested in learning what those may be!

Since its just three or four, easiest is probably to mark the proud edges with a multi-color pack of paint markers.
In St. Louis when TechShop folded some investors bought up the equipment and that became a local makerspace called MADE. I don't know if that happened in any other cities, but I am really happy to have it here!
