If you would be able to charge at home, and don't tow, get a (ideally used) EV rather than a hybrid. Less to go wrong, less maintenance and servicing, cheaper to run, nicer to drive.

By using electricity generated by other means. Just like you'd use for anything else. Apart from petrostates, hardly any electricity is generated by oil.
There are always tradeoffs. What's your suggestion about how to reduce reliance on gas? Or do you not think it's a problem?
I'm not convinced about building new nuclear (because it's so expensive, takes so long to build, and there are alternatives) but it seemed like a strange choice to close the nuclear they already had.
Likewise his supporters
... which is what the storage is for.
It's a pity they didn't build on the stable parts of the sites of abandoned coal mines that aren't exactly scenic.
Indeed! More solar, wind, and in particular storage (currently very limited) would reduce that dependency.
Graphic showing currently 24% of UK electricity coming from solar, 22% from wind
Not much wind generation today but I'm amazed how much (grid) solar we've got in the UK in March, not even midday. (screenshot taken at about 10:35am)
"often ... when 50% ... from gas" - the UK grid is not often 50% from gas, but gas does effectively set the wholesale price of electricity. If you charge car overnight (as most people do) then it's likely to be lower proportion of gas than during the day because of lower nighttime electricity demand

You must be a bot as this is just repeating the same old stuff that I've already answered.
I don't tow a boat or camper. If I did then I might not use a BEV for that.
I was asking about his claim that his kids would never buy an EV.
Consider the improvement in EVs since the first mass market li-ion BEV (Nissan Leaf) compared to now. That's less than 20 years. I expect in the next 20 years they'll improve enough to meet every practical requirement.
The UK had the same, and the Conservative government during that time used the opportunity to massively increase national debt
I've had EVs for 5 years, they've been much cheaper to run, both in terms of "fuel" and for maintenance/servicing compared to ICE.
Initial new cost is getting very close to parity now, and used EVs are very good value.
In terms of longevity, they do pretty well.

I guess by "It" you mean a new Nissan Leaf? For buying groceries one mile away and doctor's 10 miles away? Sure. Or maybe pole-to-pole like a couple did in another Nissan based on the same platform?

No difference between a new ICE or new EV in that regard - completely orthogonal issue.
Ok.
So it's not an ICE vs EV thing, it's a new vs old thing.
As your daughter I'm sure can confirm, all cars that are internet connected (pretty much all new cars) can be disconnected by removing their modem, and there's no difference in that regard between an ICE or EV car.
Good for you
I was asking about your children. I understand you won't buy an EV, but I highly expect your children will (unless you are very old and had kids as a teenager).
Cameras, GPS, accident avoidance, driving data etc etc is across all new vehicles, not an EV only thing.
I agree that one size does not fit all. I was asking about your children. In the next 20 years there will be more and closer chargers and more independent mechanics. Modern ICE cars are full of the same electronics, cameras, GPS, etc etc as EVs, and need specialist equipment to work on their engines
What they have seen is not the same as what will be possible in the next 20 years. The original Nissan leaf had an EPA range of about 100 miles. The current one has an EPA range of about 300 miles. In less than 20 years. In 20 years time EVs could have a range of much more than any petrol car.
Plenty of EVs are available that have nothing to do with Musk, Besos or China.
I've driven from London to the arctic circle in an EV. A couple drove pole-to-pole in an EV www.thenissannext.com/en/PoletoPol...
What's the relevance of cell service?
