Digital painting of Jakub partially reclined against a stack of scrolls, books, and boxes, his black cloak draped over the pile. He is wearing only a drape of white cloth across his lap, his black leather boots, and his black leather gloves with a gold ring on one finger. In one hand he loosely holds a narrow staff with a cross at the finial. He looks bored and irritated. A thin gold halo frames his head and shoulders. (1670)
Closeup detail of the previous image, showing Jakub from the waist up. (1670)
Caravaggio's "John the Baptist (John in the Wilderness)." Saint John, quite young, is partially reclined against a deep red cloak, which is itself draped over a large tree branch against a very dark background. He is mostly unclothed, and holds a long, narrow staff loosely in one hand. A sheep grazes slightly behind him on the left side of the painting.

He's sulking because nobody wants to celebrate St. John's birthday like they do in the cool Catholic west.
A study and a riff on this Caravaggio painting of John the Baptist.
