What does 2025 look like? Alongside my journalism work, I'm also going to be working on two separate book projects: finishing up #16Tons and Walking On Dinosaurs, a narrative history of Texas paleontology, diggers, and extinct ecosystems for the University of Texas. I'm very excited about both.

I didn't sell as many journalism pieces in the back half of the year as I'd have liked, because I was working steadily on a new Anna O'Brien novel #16Tons. And I do mean steadily: by the end of December, I'll have written nearly 100,000 words in five months.

In other news I wrote about 2500 words in #16Tons today: a messy little blast of first-pass horror from a later chapter as a treat for myself, which brings the amount of new material in the draft over the past two months to something like 35k words. Not shabby!
