**Chrome is finally coming to ARM64 Linux devices this year, Googlehas announced. ** If you currently run Ubuntu (or another Linux distribution) on an ARM-based device like the Raspberry Pi or a Snapdragon X Elite laptop, etc, you’ve had no way to install an official Google Chrome build, only Chromium, the open-source project on which Chrome is based. The lack of an official Google Chrome ARM build for Linux has always been puzzling given that Chromium supports ARM, and lots of Chromebooks are ARM-based. Today (12 March, 2026) the confusion can end. The search giant says its proprietary browser will be winging its way to Linux ARM platforms in “Q2 2026” – which means sometime after April, basically. _“This release represents a significant undertaking to ensure that ARM64 Linux users receive the same secure, stable, and rich Chrome experience found on other platforms”,_ The Chrome Team says in a post on the Chromium blog. ### Includes support for NVIDIA DGX Spark Google has offered Chrome ARM builds for macOS since Apple’s launch of the M1 chip, and ARM-powered Windows devices have been catered for since 2024. With the addition of Linux ARM64 support, the full set is complete. _—oh, RISC-V when? ;)_ The news means ARM64 Linux users can make use of features unavailable in Chromium, like Google account sync (yanked from Chromium in 2021 ), Google Pay, benefit from additional Safe Browsing protections and enjoy the myriad of Gemini AI integrations. Google says it’s partnering with NVIDIA to support the DGX Spark, the super-pricey if compact AI workstation that runs NVIDIA’s Ubuntu-based _DGX OS_ , with Chrome available to install from NVIDIA’s package manager. If you’re not on a $3000+ DGX, don’t fret as Chrome’s ARM build will be able to download (in DEB or RPM) from the official Chrome website in the coming months. ### Belated is better than never Good news? I think so. I never tire of stating that the choice to not use something is better than having no choice to use it at all. Those rocking a Raspberry Pi setup with Ubuntu, who may need Chrome to access a specific site or streaming service, now can. And though the Linux community may _say_ it’s tepid on Chrome, it remains one of the most widely used and installed web browsers – it topped Flathub’s download chart in 2022, 2023 and 2024. **Qualcomm subsidiary Arduino has announced the VENTUNO Q, a new single-board computer that ships with Ubuntu pre-installed.** This isn’t a board aimed at casual makers or tech tinkerers bored with their Raspberry Pi, but catering to the demands of AI workloads at the edge: robotics, industrial automation, computer vision. The Ventuno Q is built around Qualcomm’s Dragonwing IQ-8275 processor with CPU, GPU and NPU, which delivers 40 TOPS of AI compute to run large language models, visual language models and computer vision workloads on-device. It comes with 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM – double what you get on the comparable Jetson Orin Nano Super – and 64GB of eMMC storage. If that’s not enough, there’s an M.2 slot for NVMe expansion. On the connectivity side: Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3 and 2.5Gb Ethernet. ### Ubuntu (at) Edge Ubuntu is often judged solely on its desktop efforts, but it’s easy to forget that the distro is used at scale. Canonical has long been bullish on positioning Ubuntu as the de-facto operating system for edge, embedded computing and robotics developers. Now, with support for the Ventuno Q, it’s aiding those working in the burgeoning industrial AI space too. Cindy Goldberg, Canonical’s VP of Silicon Alliances, says: _“By providing a reliable Ubuntu foundation for VENTUNO Q, we ensure that a successful prototype can scale into a securely-designed industrial solution with 10 years of security maintenance.”_ While Fabio Violante, Vice President and General Manager of Arduino says the combination of hardware and Ubuntu OS will enable _“AI-driven decisions to be translated into physical action instantly”_. The software-side centres on the Arduino App Lab, a development environment that lets you work with Arduino sketches, Python, and pre-built AI model integrations from a single interface. The “sell” is that you can go from unboxing this to running AI inference easily, i.e., sans friction. If you’d rather work with standard Linux tooling, like VS Code, Docker, Python, etc, you can; App Lab is optional. The Ventuno Q is also compatible with Arduino UNO shields, Raspberry Pi HATs, and Modulino nodes via a regular 40-pin GPIO header. Last year, Canonical announced certified images of Ubuntu 24.04 for Dragonwing IoT devices as part of a partnership with Qualcomm. The latest announcement suggests the collaboration is working, with developers benefitting from Ubuntu’s expanding support for Dragonwing platforms. I don’t imagine most reading this site will be clamouring to buy one (no release date yet), but the board is on show at Embedded World 2026 (10–12 March in Germany) or you can sign up to get availability alerts on the Arduino website.
