8th Wall just open sourced their augmented reality engine, and it's a bigger deal than it sounds. In this video I break down why mobile AR quietly disappeared, what role 8th Wall played in web AR, and why this changes things for brands, agencies, and developers. To demonstrate, I built a prototype: a product visualisation experience running on a single codebase across mobile, desktop, and Snapchat Spectacles AR glasses, with real time sync and colocation between devices.
