AltStore PAL simplifie l’installation d’apps non notarisées et l’activation de JIT Inception chez AltStore, qui permet désormais d’installer… AltStore. Plus précisément, AltStore PAL, la boutique tierce téléchargeable officiellement pour iOS dans l’UE depuis l’année dernière, offre maintenant de télécharger AltStore Classic, l’utilitaire originel permettant de sideloader des applications non notarisées. La nouveauté permet de télécharger plus facilement différents programmes indisponibles par des voies classiques, comme l’émulateur de GameCube/Wii DolphiniOS ou le gestionnaire de machines virtuelles UTM. Tout n’est malheureusement pas aussi simple qu’espéré si vous comptez en profiter : il faudra avoir installé AltServer sur son Mac pour télécharger une app proposée sur AltStore Classic. Une fois votre téléphone relié en USB, l’application demande d’entrer les identifiants de son compte Apple et l’UDID de son iPhone ou iPad, ce qui est la démarche habituelle pour ce type de bidouille. Notons qu’il est possible d’utiliser un compte Apple « jetable » étant donné que le programme s’en sert uniquement pour demander des autorisations sur les serveurs de Cupertino. AltStore simplifie le sideloading donc, mais les développeurs ont également profité de cette mise à jour pour lancer StikDebug, une application disponible sur AltStore PAL permettant d’activer la compilation JIT (Just-In-Time compilation) pour certains programmes. Un tel débridage est indispensable pour obtenir de bonnes performances dans certaines apps, notamment sur les émulateurs. Apple refuse cette capacité technique à la plupart des développeurs, étant donné que JIT revient à créer du code natif qui ne peut pas être vérifié. Les développeurs de Dolphin expliquent pourquoi ils n'émuleront pas sur iPhone StikDebug demande ici aussi pas mal de bidouille pour le premier lancement étant donné qu’il faudra générer un script d’appairage depuis son Mac, indispensable pour utiliser l’app. Il faudra de plus ajouter une configuration VPN pour l’occasion, l’appareil ayant besoin de se connecter à lui-même pour activer JIT. Bref, AltStore PAL et Classic ne vont pas vous permettre d’installer n’importe quel fichier .ipa sans vous prendre la tête, mais simplifie un peu la démarche pour les bricoleurs.
