Intel hires developer who reverse engineered the Apple M1 GPU, bringing open source Linux graphics to Apple Silicon When the Asahi Linux team released its first alpha version of a GNU/Linux-based operating system for Macs with Apple M-series processors in 2022, things were still pretty rough around the edges. Thunderbolt, Bluetooth, cameras, and sleep mode weren't working yet. And neither was hardware-accelerated graphics. That's all changed over the past few years. Linux 6.17 will be able to reboot Silicon Macs One of the most important hiccups, alongside the Apple graphics card drivers support for the mainline Linux kernel, was that Linux wasn't able to reboot the M2/M1 Silicon Macs, because the necessary Apple System Management Controller (SMC) driver was missing in the mainline Linux kernel, and that only the Asahi Linux kernel provided such driver. Starting from Linux 6.17, Silicon Macs, such as the latest MacBooks, can now reboot the system, which is one of the most important functions that every computer has to implement when building an operating system.

Linux 6.17 will be able to reboot the Apple Silicon Macs!

The #AndroidStudio #Bumblebee Canary came out today, that is based on #IntelliJIDEA 2021.1.1 I was really hoping it would have support for #AppleM1 out of box like the #IntelliJ community edition, but it seems like it doesn’t. Why? 🤔 #AndroidDev #AndroidStudioBumblebee
