#Roman Emperor #ConstantiusII departed from his father's religious policies. #ConstantineTheGreat left #paganism alone and favoured #Nicene #Christianity. Constantius favoured #Arian Christianity and, #ThisDayInHistory in 356, forbid most pagan worship. He also repressed Judaism.

On #ThisDayInHistory in 325, a full 1700 years ago, the first #CouncilOfNicaea opened in #Nikaia, Bithynia, in modern Türkiye. They debated the #Arian and #Athanasian positions, ultimately deciding #Christ and God are of one substance, though #Jesus was also born and human.
