six radio telescope dish antennas at varying distances in the desert. Each antenna is illuminated in one of the pride colours. The Milky Way arches overhead.
It's Mardi Gras night, so time to once again share this fab image from Alex Cherney of CSIRO #ASKAP telescope core located at the Inyarrimanha Ilgari Bundara observatory, illuminated in pride colours.
Light, even radio light, is a spectrum.
Light is gay.

Today is the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples!
On Wajarri Yamaji Country in WA, each ASKAP radio telescope carries a Wajarri name — honouring the land, language, and culture of its Traditional Owners.

A nanosecond radio burst from a dead NASA satellite? ASKAP detected it - likely plasma discharge from built-up charge on Relay 2, silent since 1967. It’s not “alive,” but #zombie sats can reawaken under the right sunlight. Space is weird. 🧟♀️🛰️📡 #spaceweather #ASKAP

Australian astronomers using CSIRO's ASKAP radio telescope on Wajarri Country in WA find an even stranger long-period transient www.icrar.org/xray-transie... cue endless stories about "baffled" astronomers and the Daily Mail using the "a" word.

So when it's a supernova remnant, it's "perfectly shaped" because it's so circular, all according to one set of doctors and "physics"? But when I'm the circular one, I'm "morbidly obese" & going to die of heart disease, according to a different set of doctors and "medicine"? #askap #snr
Astronomers found a rare, nearly perfect circle in space: a supernova remnant named Teleios (G305.4–2.2). Its symmetry and faint radio glow hint at a quiet environment, but its exact age and origin remain uncertain

A small figure sits atop a tall pillar of carbon, stretching high into the sky, surrounded by a bleak mountainous wasteland with a blue sky patched with pink clouds above - a virtual representation of the cost of astronomy travel, created by Glen Rees as part of "The Future of Meetings" (TFOM).
