Elly Baker AM Chair of the London Assembly Transport Committee “Disabled Londoners, older Londoners, young Londoners, low-income Londoners, parents with young children and women; all these groups could currently face barriers to using London’s transport network. “TfL collects a significant amount of data on its passengers, but this is lacking depth and nuance around issues concerning accessibility and inclusion and those people who are not using its services. “Our investigation also examined TfL’s engagement with key stakeholders to understand their varied travel needs, and while the Committee welcomes TfL’s engagement with its advisory groups, we feel this is limited and TfL could do more to engage with more diverse voices. “Inclusion is not only about fairness – it’s also about functionality and the future resilience of our city.”
Public transport journeys are still too long and difficult for some groups in London. Today’s report from #AssemblyTransport examines how TfL is building its understanding of how and why Londoner’s travel. Read the report in full: www.london.gov.uk/who-we-are/w...

Elly Baker AM Chair of the London Assembly Transport Committee “Much to the frustration of the London Assembly Transport Committee, there is no sense of urgency from TfL on this issue. There is currently a patchwork approach to car clubs in London and they are failing to reach their full potential. We heard from TfL that it is working to update its six commitments on car clubs, and this work will continue in the new year. Yet, if Zipcar goes ahead with its proposal, 90 per cent of London’s car club market will have disappeared by then. “TfL must take action now to ensure that car club provision in London does not disappear entirely.”
Today, #AssemblyTransport has written to the Mayor of London and the TfL Commissioner about Zipcar’s announcement to withdraw from London this year. Read the letter in full: www.london.gov.uk/who-we-are/w...
We submitted evidence to #AssemblyTransport investigation into the walkability of London's pavements. The report mentions our submission many times, highlighting the disproportionate impact of street clutter and damaged pavements on older Londoners when walking and wheeling 🚶♀️🦽
Elly Baker AM Chair of the London Assembly Transport Committee “TfL is directly responsible for just 5 per cent of the 30,000 km of pavements in London and London’s Boroughs the rest. But TfL does possess a range of tools needed to help make walking and wheeling a pleasant, safer and more accessible experience for everyone across the whole network, which are currently being overlooked and underutilised. “The number of daily walking trips taken in London has not increased in the last seven years. Unless TfL takes action now to make walking and wheeling a better experience for everyone, we fear these figures won’t increase; and we won’t realise the benefits of being the world’s most walkable city. “It is time for TfL to be bolder and push further with the tools it has to de-clutter and repair London’s streets, alongside prioritising inclusive street designs.”
This morning, #AssemblyTransport published the report: ‘Quality streets: improving London’s pavements’ - calling for a range of measures aimed at improving the walkability of London’s streets and pavements. Read the report in full: www.london.gov.uk/who-we-are/w...

Elly Baker AM Chair of the London Assembly Transport Committee “There is currently a patchwork approach to car clubs in London and they are failing to reach their full potential. This makes London a very hard city for car club operators to work in and could be one of the reasons for the closure of Zipcar. We need to see action from Transport for London (TfL) to establish a pan-London policy on car clubs to enable a more even distribution of car clubs throughout London, make them easier for Londoners to use and raise awareness.”
The Chair of #AssemblyTransport, Elly Baker AM, has issued a statement in response to the closure of Zipcar in London. Read the response in full: www.london.gov.uk/who-we-are/w...
