My slides printed off, they have a teal and white colour scheme. Besides the slide is mine and Ge Rivers' trans Autistic cervical screening self-advocacy zine. The zine reads: Get Checked. Stay safe

I'm looking forward to leading training with the University Hospital Southampton breast imaging team tomorrow.

We shall be discussing how to support Autistic patients and patients with learning disabilities.

I enjoyed writing these book chapters on my experiences of ethical applications, double empathy in healthcare, and shifting research paradigms in trans+ Autistic research.

Enhancing Accessibility in Substance Use Services for Autistic Clients This report examines the accessibility of substance use services in Portsmouth for autistic individuals, emphasising the need for tailored environments and continual staff learning. It highlights systemic barriers, advocating for ongoing neurodiversity training and the adoption of the SPACE framework. The findings show accessible care is achievable through collaboration with autistic communities.

This blog houses the full research report from my SCDTP-Funded internship within local substance use services:

My Research Katie Munday, a PhD candidate at the University of Portsmouth, researches the experiences of transgender and gender-diverse autistic adults in accessing health and social care in the UK. Their community-based projects focus on healthcare accessibility, substance use in autistic individuals, and improving cancer service resources for marginalised communities.

I thought it was about time to create a research 'about me' section. You can tell it's been a busy few years for me research wise. Publications, research, contact details and much more 🌈🎓 #AutResearch

Philosophical Foundations: Ontology and Epistemology Explained The author reflects on their difficulty understanding ontology and epistemology during their undergraduate studies, ultimately identifying as a relativist-constructionist. They explain ontology as the exploration of existence and reality perception, while epistemology examines knowledge acquisition. Different epistemological perspectives include objectivism, constructionism, and subjectivism, shaping research approaches and interpretations.

OMG, I'm a relativist!
It took me a long time to understand epistemology and ontology, let alone where I stood within these areas. Here is a helpful guide to what all these long words mean! #AutResearch 🌈🎓

Does anyone have a dot phrase or auto text for accommodations or suggestions for supporting #autistic patients admitted to the hospital? I've already noted that nonverbal pain scales are unlikely to be accurate & asking pt about sensory needs, but I'd like to do better.

Inclusive Practices for Better Gender Identity Care To improve gender identity healthcare for autistic and neurodivergent individuals, key recommendations include hiring a trans healthcare coordinator, enhancing GP training, prioritizing trauma-informed care, and ensuring accessibility. Participants emphasise the need for empathy, communication, and a patient-centered approach that recognises and addresses the unique challenges faced by this community.

In this blog I share recommendations from two pieces of work on Autistic people’s experiences of accessing, or trying to access, gender identity healthcare. #Trans #Autistic #Accessibility #AutResearch 🎓🌈

Me from the shoulders up. I am pulling a wide-eyed, open-mouthed goofy face. Totally shooketh.

I feel that I can be myself at the University more and that others see worth in my ND queer way of being and communicating.

That feels very nice.

Celebrations tonight include a takeaway and some kind of cake 🥳

#Autresearch Any studies linking aphantasia and autism or ADHD with specific genes? My search did not reveal any such studies. Is aphantasia linked to visual processing in the brain? How heritable is aphantasia?

Myself and another trans+ researcher are creating a zine* about cervical screening. It is with trans+ Autistic people in mind, as a tool for information and advocacy.

We've got a page on how it could be experienced for Autistic people and trans+ people but I'm having trouble thinking about the overlap.

What is specifically different for trans+ Autistic people in this circumstance? I ask this as a trans+ Autistic person who has had experienced of three of these screenings (I also just happen to have a head full of bees right now).

Any help is appreciated.

[A white background, large black text reads: Trans+ Autistic cervical screening. How is it different for us?

To the bottom left is the Autistic and Living the Dream logo. To the bottom right is a cute image of two people smiling and holding each other. They both wear head coverings and a cancer awareness ribbon]

I'm looking forward to having an away day with the team tomorrow.

We are at the end of phase 2 focusing on changing practice within cancer services.
