Valued in 200 countries, some where ppl can’t question those in power. Yet #BBC is axing #BBCHARDtalk bc, they say, it was made for TV. If they updated its #YouTube pages+put it on prime time TV it wd thrive, IMO.
Who wd you like to see in the hot seat with Stephen Sackur before it ends in March?

Marks and Spencer is an important British institution, like #BBCNews. Yet M&S allows its own distinct brands eg Autograph+Blue Harbour to flourish. Customers know what they provide. BBC managers are set on killing off its #BBCHARDtalk 'brand', known+valued in 200 countries. Why?

7 1 1 0

[[The trouble with Mr Munro's argument, IMO, is that axing #BBCHARDtalk is eliminating a specific space, time, presenter and programme culture that people who want its deep research+interrogative style know+value across *200* countries. It's a huge BBC 'brand'+thus an asset. 15/

Julia Bicknell said: "I know that people have used those[ #BBCHARDtalk] interviews of presidents, prime ministers, senior figures..to..challenge, charge with corruption". She was curious that a "TV decision" on a prog where people are interested in ideas, had not allowed its funding to continue.13/

He said audiences wanted live breaking news+analysis from the #BBCNewsChannel. @juliabicknell asked @jonathancmunro if he had taken into acct that #BBCHARDtalk "is a bedrock of information, research for so many other places where ppl can pick up, hold their govts to account." 12/

Mr Munro said #BBCHARDtalk runs on #BBCWorldService English audio and does get a significant range of guests, but he said it was made for the #BBCNewsChannel, which is moving away from recorded 30-minute programmes, because "audiences do not watch them."11/

@jonathancmunro said #Americast is "fantastically important+also very interesting..now. They've had numerous guests who [will play] key roles in the #Trump administration. The interviews are a different style from #BBCHARDtalk or @bbclaurak..it doesn't mean they're not good". 9/

Fran Unsworth asked if Mr Munro was "concerned" at lack of effective formats for debate at BBC, longer form interviews, discussion, "that's what the loss of #BBCHARDtalk represented..We see that there are some very entertaining things in #podcast world, but actually it's chat." 7/
