A4 - And (I've got lots of thoughts about this question!) start to develop a mentor NETWORK. Do not identify A mentor, but find and develop a COHORT of mentors who can help you achieve your goals. #BIDChat

A4 - It seems sort of contrived, but taking the time to sit down & write out your 1, 3, & 5 year goals can be a useful exercise. There is SO much that comes at you during your first year (plus) as an attending, having your goals spelled out can be SUPER-helpful... #BIDChat

A3 - When I realized my residents were talking about ME when they said "This will probably require an attending-to-attending conversation". . . (They were talking about me!) #BIDChat

A2 - Once I cleared the initial self-doubt about making decisions independently without an attending. . . I was surprised by how much MORE I liked clinical work as compared to residency/fellowship. I hadn't expected that! #BIDChat

I think that the advice to learn how to say "no" to things is a double-edged sword - it's complicated, because you definitely don't want to get a reputation as someone who always says "no". . . #BIDChat @jwilliamMD @BIDMC_Academy

Also, nobody really taught me about billing... When I first transitioned from trainee to faculty, I was seriously concerned I was going to mess up my billing somehow! #BIDChat (I wonder if @virenkaul & @nvhstewart feel similarly??)

Q1 - When I was transitioning from a PCCM fellow to faculty, I was worried about being the one who had to make the FINAL decisions about clinical issues... Not having an attending as "back up" was challenging & nerve-wracking! #BIDChat

A1: I think it's important to look at twitter in the same way we do "usual" teaching. A 1-minute teaching burst on rounds is the same as a single tweet.

If done well, it's awesome.

Excited to join in the first #BIDchat. As an alum of @BIDMC_IM, anything BID is fine by me (especially furosemide...)
