Screenshot of a Facebook post with an image at the bottom of people bending over piles of paper in a large office space. The text reads: "ARCHIVE MODE Over the past 10 days or so the Bee Lab has gone into archival mode. We need to be able to have the collection sit for days, weeks, months or years without insect or rodent damage as our future is unclear. Thankfully we have our new research annex and 800+ glass topped insect drawers to store everything in. And! We have community bee shocktroops arriving each day to provide support. People who we have never met are showing up to do the careful work of archiving 25 years of specimens into "unit trays" by species and putting unidentified specimens into deep sleep. As public servants we are so thankful, grateful, and honored to have this gift. Last week alone we estimated that volunteers contributed 400 hours of labor (along with drinks, cookies, and other goodies). We aren't a bunch of crybaby intellectuals doomscrolling the day away....we are in action. You can join us. Just email droegesam@gmail.com and I will send you directions. (10-5 each day through Saturday and then I am off with my wonderful partner to collect bees on St. Thomas ... or at least one of is collecting bees.). Photos by Jessica Zelt."
🐝 Time sensitive bulletin for folks in Maryland and DC: the USGS Native Bee Inventory and Monitoring Lab is shutting down. They need volunteer help to archive data and specimens. They have done rare work that could inform ecological remediation. Through Saturday. #bees #nativebees #BIML #wildbeelab
