Last night, the Bill to Ban Fox Hunting was voted down by 124 TDs (with 24 for it).
The Bill failed because FF, FG, and SF TDs all voted to keep in line with the party whip. This is not the end of the campaign. The IWT supports the growing movement to ban this cruel blood sport.

The bill to ban fox hunting in Ireland, proposed by People Before Profit-Solidarity TD Ruth Coppinger, has been defeated in the Dáil. The bill was defeated by a large majority. Twenty-four TDs voted to amend the Animal Health and Welfare Act 2013 to ban the hunting of a fox or foxes, and to provide for related matters. However, 124 TDs voted against. Reacting to the outcome, deputy Ruth Coppinger was very critical of Government parties and others who voted against it. In a social media post she said: "FF,FG, SF, Ind Irel and Aontu vote to keep fox hunting despite 85% opposing blood sports. Not the first time Dáil has been poles apart from population. We will fight on to #BanFoxHunting."
An unsurprising result, as is the shinners being on the regressive side of the fence.
