The beauty of mathematics, in some sense, supersedes the beauty that we see with our eyes.'Dr. Fern Hunt is a mathematician with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). In 2000, she received the 51st Arthur S. Flemming Award for her math research contributions. For a time she served on the BERAC (Biological and Environmental Research Advisory Committee) for the Department of Energy. Oval color portrait of Dr. Hunt: a dark skinned, middle-aged Black woman smiling brightly, wearing black rectangle glasses, silver earrings, a bright pink top and a brooch. White text on blue background: Mary Lovenia DeCongé- Watson, PhD (1933-2025) (formerly Sister Mary Sylvester DeCongé). Dr. DeCongé-Watson was the 15th African-American woman to receive a PhD in Math (2-Normed Lattices and 2-Metric Spaces, 1968). She is notably worked on Cauchy's Problem for Higher-Order Abstract Parabolic Equations. She taught several grade school teachers for their math competency exams before she became a professor at Southern University. To the left of the text is an ovular portrait of Dr. DeCongé-Watson as an elderly light-skinned Black woman wearing a pink blazer, a diamond wedding ring, oval transition lens, and earrings. She has short white hair and lovely brown-red lipstick. She is holding her chin and looks very refined. Below her portrait is the blue and gold logo from the Sisters of the Holy Family

White text on blue background: Trachette Levon Jackson, PhD (1972 - ). Dr. Jackson specializes in mathematical oncology, using mathematical models to study tumor growth and treatment. In 2003, she became the second African- American woman to become a Sloan Fellow in mathematics. There is a snippet of math serving as decorative black text in the back that is from JC Arciero, TL Jackson, DE Kirschner (2004) A MATHEMATICAL MODEL OF TUMOR-IMMUNE EVASION AND siRNA TREATMENT in Discrete and Continuous Dynamic Systems Series B Vol 4, No 1. At the top is a banner with the University of Michigan logo and LSA Mathematics University of Michigan. At the bottom is a red, yellow, green banner reading Black History Month and the International Press of Boston logo.
