A gargantuan vintage 1950s Chato Castillo handmade metales casados acero pavonado (blued steel) and pre-Columbian ancient Mesoamerican carved stone relic Archer brooch - the archer was fabricated in metales casados in three metals (silver, copper, brass) with his bow in acero pavonado (blued steel), and his face is a prong-set carved stone relic in the 1000-2000 year old range - no doubt a one of a kind, and of enormous dimensions, the brooch measures 5.5" tall by 3.5" wide by over an inch in depth - marked at back as shown, “Chato Castillo Taxco Mexico”, and with Chato’s Cubist Parrot mark. Chato, like his brother Antonio, was a long-time collector of pre-Columbian relics from ancient Mesoamerica, and often used them in his jewelry and decorative objects. I have two wall-hanging sculptures designed by Chato for Los Castillo that are larger versions of this brooch (each is about 18-20 inches). Though I have seen one other of the wall-hanging sculptures, they are quite rare and I believe that they are each one of a kind like the brooch. NFS
