graphic via FormulaE channel on Youtube, March 2026 "Something Weird Is Happening With Electric Race Cars" Arguably, FormulaE is better at explaining when & how a car & driver can use the extra 350kw of power, how long it lasts, and what the costs are, strategically, over the course of the race, compared to Formua1. Both the new 2026 rules & the tv coverage/graphics for Formula1 racing viewers just find confusing, if not almost completely opaque. Yes, that's a jokey Rubik's cube on the steering column. It's a metaphor, dude. No, the drivers don't wear suits of armor--but they do get all gussied up like knights of old, complete with squires in attendance, horse power, and your favorite colors.
Both FormulaE and Formula1 use the "push-to-pass" overtake system using electrical energy. What F1 calls "overtake mode" (delivering 350kw --in a hybrid engine) is the same as "attack mode" in FormulaE (with all-electric cars).
