Schrodinger and Paul Dirac won the Nobel Prize in 1933 for discovering detailed workings of quantum mechanics. Of course, Schrodinger is best known for his thought experiment: Schrodinger’s cat. It’s a bit of speculation involving hypothetical versions of a cat, in a box, that also contains a flask of poison, a bit of radioactive material, and a geiger counter. If even one radioactive atom decayed, it would release poison from the flask and kill the cat. In the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics, the cat would be both alive and dead, which cannot be accurate. Schrodinger believed this would be instructive and help other physicists, like Albert Einstein, move past the Copenhagen interpretation. The two did agree that more certainty would be a good thing for quantum physics, but both had to face far more pressing existential issues and flee Nazi Germany.
