EC-Earth is an Earth system model developed by a European consortium of national meteorological services and research institutes. The EC-Earth consortium was started in 2006 and has welcomed many new partners ever since. By now, EC-Earth has become a prominent state-of-the-art model within the international landscape of global climate and Earth system models. The EC-Earth consortium has contributed to the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP), and will continue to do so in the future. EC-Earth is also used as a research tool in various national, European and international projects.
Earlier this spring, MERGE researchers met to develop the EC-Earth4 Climate Model ahead of 2028 IPCC Report:

But the ESM experiments we operationally run in #CMIP have remain largely unchanged for decades - defined in terms of atmospheric concentrations, with idealised metrics like ECS which are poor predictors of future temperatures, and are subject to balance errors. esd.copernicus.org/articles/13/...

We also need to think about how to defend the infrastructure which underpins international climate modeling and #CMIP. The US/DOE is the backbone of ESGF and we need other countries (and maybe big tech) to be ready to help fill the gap if the Trump administration pulls the plug.

Is there any docs/metadata required to indicate the staggered grid position (cell center vs cell face) as part of the official requirements? I have found nothing.
This is really bad! Causes lots of wasted time/pot errors for users (e.g. discourse.pangeo.io/t/lat-lon-gr...)
