I've been working on the mascot issue in various ways my entire life but more formally since around 2012. In massive numbers, Natives from citizens, organizations to entire tribal nations have organized and filed lawsuits, created policy changes on local and state levels to #ChangetheName.

I reflect on how much of #changethename & change of "Fighting Sioux" mascot involved individuals giving testimonies sharing the way Natives were treated in sports settings that made these words "pejoratives" that "fostered environments of hostility", how vital those points were in gaining support.
