Great black wasp with iridescent blue wings on a monarda punctata pink and white stacked bloom.

If you love wasps as much as I do, plant monarda punctata aka horsemint or spotted bee balm. ᏒᏍᏗ svsdi in ᏣᎳᎩ tsalagi Cherokee. ᏒᏍᏗ bloom after our monarda fistulosa is done for the season. #nativeplants #tsalagi #cherokeelanguage

Comment elsewhere: uhoh, I’ve been pronouncing it like ‘Koga.’

This IS correct too. There's quite a bit of variation between dialects AND even between families. When I say "goga" that first g is harder, leaning toward a k sound. The English phonetics are not a perfect guide. #cherokeelanguage

One of my favorite fact of the Tsalagi(Cherokee Language) is there is a prefix to indicate a motion away from speaker and towards speaker(wi vs di). Like you can say to someone go(hena lit you imperative stem go)wi-hena(leave away from my direction) #cherokeelanguage

#cherokeelanguage facts, anyone?

Cherokee is polysynthetic—meaning it has a lot of morphemes (sounds that hold meaning).

A single Cherokee word can tell you who is doing what, when, where, why, and how.

For example:

wa’i’a
w-a’i-a
away-s/he-walking-now
S/he is walking away (from the speaker)
