China’s National Medical Products Administration has approved Neuracle’s implantable brain–computer interface system, designed to help patients with quadriplegia caused by cervical spinal cord injuries regain basic hand-grasping ability through a pneumatic glove device. Outsider’s comment: Compared with Neuralink, the key difference is that Chinese BCI systems appear to focus more on interacting with the world in a physical way rather than controlling computers directly. Signs of this approach have been appearing in Chinese media since last year. The image accompanying today’s post shows a patient drinking water by himself comes from a report by Henan Provincial Hospital on 29/08/2025. Another trial participant has used similar method to complete online data-labeling work. Policy support is also emerging: in early January, Sichuan Province included the implantation procedure for such devices in its public medical insurance, with reimbursements of up to RMB 6,583(≈$954)
