A symbol of peace was cut from US dimes. Is it a message from Trump? The design was finalized in 2024, before Trump took office. The artist and U.S. Mint say it symbolizes the early U.S. quest for freedom from Britain.

Dancing Ammolite: Elements of Nature – Fire – Fine Silver Coin. Enhanced with gold plating, the reverse design by Canadian artist Mariya Olshevska features engraved abstract forms inspired by the rhythmic qualities of Fire. Like the flickering flames of a bonfire, the curving lines dance around the 5 mm round ammolite at the heart of this design.

Celebrate Love – 1 oz. Fine Silver Coin (2026) Enhanced with selective rose gold plating. Designed by Mariya Olshevska, your coin’s reverse features a multi-faceted heart at its center, where the shape forms an everlasting expression of love. It is surrounded by a circular arrangement of symbolic flowers: tulips for affection and renewal; roses for devotion and beauty; and fairy thimble for those small, simple moments that can feel like magic. Rose gold plating adds a pink hue to the ribbon that forms hearts and infinity symbols as it weaves among the blooms, and to the rim on both sides of the coin.

Happy to share that I've had the pleasure of designing this year's 'Celebrate Love' coin for the Royal Canadian Mint.

Photo of the reverse side of a 2012 Lucky Loonie coin, which includes the inscriptions "Canada" and "Dollar." It features a loon rising up from the water with its wings spread - a territorial display. It also includes the Olympic logo, a stylized maple leaf (like on the flag), and a security feature that's a circle a little above centre, with a maple leaf design inside it. Lastly, my initials ED are near the bottom left.

Canadians are feeling a bit territorial at the moment, so it feels appropriate to share this photo of a 2012 Lucky Loonie. It's the only circulating coin I've designed for 🇨🇦; it was inspired by a scientific paper describing the territorial behaviour of loons.

A crop of a coin mockup centered on a cobra with his mouth open and tongue extended. There sees cherry blossoms behind him to the left, and red and white rays in the background.

A little piece of a coin I worked on today, timely, maybe?

3 years ago this month, the US Mint released into circulation the 1st of 20 American Women Quarters. I was thrilled to have designed that first coin—Maya Angelou—and 3 others: Anna May Wong, Edith Kanaka`ole, & Pauli Murray. These women inspire me, especially in times like these.

For my first post here, I'm sharing a little collage of my work: three natural science illustrations and one coin design. I've been a self-employed illustrator for nearly 25 years now, so this is a small sampling. Many more examples here: emilydamstra.com

I wish I could show off the design but i can't, however, I got to design a coin for a DC/Marvel show that just wrapped filming! It's a huge honor to be trusted with designing it. 🥰 Truly a highlight for my career!
