Although we arrested a suspect, our homicide detectives continue to follow every lead to fully understand what led to this senseless act. In Texas, hate crimes are addressed through penalty enhancements rather than separate charges. This allows for increased punishment when a crime is motivated by bias or prejudice. We're committed to building the strongest case possible for the District Attorney to prosecute. We know that many people in our LGBTQ+ community have questions and may feel especially fearful right now. We invite you to join us and Pride San Antonio at an upcoming community meeting where we'll share updates and listen to your concerns. We see you, we hear you, and we stand with you-today and always.
