I think a key mistake people make when thinking about #CoreData or #SwiftData is primarily considering them a "storage technology". Yes, that is also a part and the thing SQLite wrappers etc also do. But the bigger thing is the "control" layer which maintains [โ€ฆ]

Has anyone encountered such a problem? Do we really need to worry about it? It seems like some SwiftData internal problem, as there is no way to work around it as there is in #CoreData.

Undo support for SwiftUI app with CoreData โ€“ Stefan Pauwels

Undo support for SwiftUI app with CoreData I didnโ€™t find an official documentation on how to setup UndoManager for CoreData in SwiftUI. Hereโ€™s how I did it (soon available in Leviathan) for iOS and macOS. Insert managedObjectContext into the window as usual (no need to setup UndoManager here): @main struct LeviathanApp: App { var moc: NSManagedObjectContext = { let viewContext = PersistenceController.shared.container.viewContext return viewContext }() var body: some Scene { WindowGroup { LeviathanWindow() .environment(\.managedObjectContext, moc) } } } In the window, set the environmentโ€™s undoManager as the managedObjectContextโ€™s undoManager. I have seen it not work when set in onAppear. Settings it in onChange(of: initial:true) works for me: struct LeviathanWindow: View { @Environment(\.managedObjectContext) private var moc @Environment(\.undoManager) var undoManager var body: some View { NavigationContainer() .onChange(of: undoManager, initial: true) { old, new in moc.undoManager = new } } }

If that fails, Iโ€™ll switch to #CoreData, as there are much more materials on how to deal with it, not to mention itโ€™s a mature framework. Now itโ€™s time to at last rest before the new week! โ˜บ๏ธ

All that made me think, maybe #CoreData would be a better choice, but at this point Iโ€™m a bit afraid to change everything. On the other hand, itโ€™d be better to do it now than after the official release, I guess.

Dear #coredata #swiftlang people. Itโ€™s been a while since Iโ€™ve had to deal with migrations. IIRC back then model versions were mandatory, otherwise the app would crash in production (while doing fine in development).

I have a Swift5 app with a #cloudkit backed CoreData db.

SwiftUI Previews with #CoreData is easier than ever thanks to the new PreviewModifier protocol introduced at this year's WWDC.

I've mistakenly always thought it would only work for #SwiftData but it turns out it's perfectly fine for Core Data too! ๐Ÿ˜€

I want 2 things from a persistence framework:

1. Let the UI observe what's in the store in real time
2. Query the store in an efficient way

I've been using #SwiftData in the last few weeks.
It's nice for 1, but lacks 2 ๐Ÿ˜ž

#CoreData is still way better imo (but verbose ๐Ÿ˜‚)

Date._unconditionallyBridgeFromObjectiveC(NSDate?) crash in Swift 3 I have following function in a swift file. I am calling this from Obj C file with NSDate in place of startDate. And quite often, not every time, my app crashes with Date.

Wow ok so #TIL that non optional types in Core Data can actually be nil! Looks like Strings and Ints can default to "" and 0, but if you use something like a Date or UUID it could just be nil at some stage in runtime ๐Ÿคฏ
