On a red wall is an odd-shaped gilded frame, essentially square but with the center of the top and bottom sides drawn out into a point; this was a "finial" on one of the main panels of a much larger altarpiece. The painting itself is of the angel who announced to Mary that she was to bear Jesus. They are painted with ornate wings and virtuosic flowing robes, holding a lily and making a gesture of blessing, in front of some romanesque brick and stone architecture. https://sammlung.staedelmuseum.de/en/work/the-angel-of-the-annunciation
