The "old crow" on campus a few minutes ago. It was awake but keeping its eyes mostly closed. I think that's the best picture I took of it with its "disheveled" feathers and its strangely very long and pointy maxilla.

Disclaimer: I call it the old crow […]

#CrowUpdate (no pic sorry) As I was about to leave for work, both crows showed up with lots of twigs and fibers in their beaks. Ms Crow came for peanuts, but I lost track of Mr Crow. Strangely, it seemed that Ms Crow came from a tree which is not the one I pictured yesterday. Did they change the […]

#CrowUpdate Okay, it will take a few days before we can call this a nest...

(well, by pigeon standards, it's a great nest I guess, but only by pigeon standards)

A very unique #CrowUpdate. This is not about "my" crows, but the old crow on campus.
I just spotted it... sleeping... on top of a street light!!!

This is the first time I hear about or even witness a crow sleeping during the day. I'm afraid that it doesn't have very long left. 😢

Ms Crow looking at me from a cable above.

#CrowUpdate Yeah, the crows have resumed building the nest (I'm not sure why they stopped, maybe because of the South Crows? Or because it got warm suddenly two weeks ago, and then cold again and that confused them? No idea).
I found it. It's in the park. It […]

Mr and Ms Crow on a TV antenna and really unhappy (you can tell because the feathers on their heads are raised)

#CrowUpdate There was some trouble right in front of my house this morning. I'm not exactly sure what happened. The "South Crows" were there, Mr and Ms Crow were not happy. They did the thing I have only seen them do with cats before, that is land as close as […]

I guess I'm overdue for a #CrowUpdate
Nothing really new, but a few things.
As a reminder, last week the crows were back in the park regularly, and seemed to have started building a nest, although I didn't know where.

Saturday, not really seeing them in the […]

#CrowUpdate (no pics yet?) Not sure what happened this morning, but the south crows were louder than usual and flying all over the place including in "my" crows territory (they basically woke me up).

Now the good news: Mr and Ms Crow are around. I spotted both of them, including with... twigs […]

Mr Crow walking with a peanut in his beak.

Small #CrowUpdate The crows have been in and around the park almost constantly for the past few days!!! Yeah! (I still don't know why they stayed at the edge of their territory last week). They're still quite on the defensive, though. This morning, Mr Crow […]

opened the window to lay out peanuts. realised the crow sits on the roof of the opposite building, peeking down.

not sure but after I closed the window again I could hear them call out, and some other crows responding?

#CrowUpdate Yeah! Ms Crow came and grabbed peanuts on the balcony while I was there! I usually leave peanuts on the balcony with their shell (or else the crows make a mess) and hidden under a small plastic plate (only them, and the sparrows know about it, and while trying their best, the […]

When I went out to take out the trash this morning, both Mr and Ms Crow were in the park and Mr Crow even came down for peanuts. However, they didn't stay and hang out, they quickly went to hide them in one of their "secret" stashes. However, right after, Ms Crow came to my house to see if I […]

Ms Crow (left) and Mr Crow (right) on top of the central tree in the park.

#CrowUpdate This is an ongoing situation. I was taking a nap when I was woken up by the very loud caws of large-billed crows (aka the South Crows) - now I can easily recognize the different sounds the two species make. I looked outside and saw them flying […]

Mr Crow was on a high ground. He saw me and followed me, but was not really in the mood to come down, until he finally joined Ms Crow near the water.

(he can fly a bit better than I feared)

#CrowUpdate The crows I've seen for the past few days near the small canal were indeed Mr and Ms Crow.

I really wonder what they're doing there. The last time I saw them there was a year and a half ago when the "invaders" tried and almost succeeded in […]

Mr Crow, on the ground looking at me.

Usually, they never gets the peanuts I leave very close to me, but today she did. He took a couple of minutes and a few attempts, but I consider that as a win.

Okay, let's end this #CrowUpdate with a picture from Mr Crow (who came on my balcony while I was […]

Mr and Ms Crow on a utility pole.

#CrowUpdate So on Sunday, I went for a walk around the neighborhood to look for the crows and I finally found them. Both on the same pole at the northern limit of their territory. Both of them being on the same pole is not usual in the middle of the day (from […]

#CrowUpdate (not really) Two sparrows are hanging out on one of the regular Crow's morning spot. Who do they think they are? Kings of the World, that's who.

(I have a real update, from yesterday, coming as soon as I have a few minutes)

#CrowUpdate The mystery deepens. Yesterday, I went for a walk in the neighborhood. I saw two "crows by the sea" (does the juvenile still live with its parent? did the parent find a new mate? no idea). They looked at me from the distance, but didn't approach me. No sign of Mr or Ms Crow.

This […]

Okay, this #CrowUpdate is weird.
It's 11pm and I hear... a crow in the park!!! What the???

I have to check it out.
I go near the middle of the park and wait. It doesn't take long to hear some noise from a tree. Something falling. A cat!!! A cat climbed the […]

#CrowUpdate I haven't seen the crows in several days, except for the altercation with the south crows a couple of days ago. They're around, they eat the peanuts I hide in the regular spots (I just hope it's not the south crows that have found out the spots). This morning, I saw the neighbor in […]

#CrowUpdate When I got home from lunch, there were a lot of caws all over the neighborhood and many (it seemed of crows flying around). It turns out it was the "south crows" in a behavior reminiscent of that time when they tried to take over the neighborhood last year. (Now, I can recognize […]

#CrowUpdate (no pics) So I haven't seen the crows much during the past few days (one reason could be the cold). I also noticed some other crows (the "south crows" probably) flying around the park a little bit too much.
Well, I got a picture of the situation a few minutes ago. I was at my desk […]

#CrowUpdate kind of. The picture is from yesterday on campus. It's a crow completely unfazed that I'm walking right past it, and that I'm stopping to take a picture. He just looked at me for a second and resumed eating.
I kinda wish "my" crows were so […]

Mr Crow was not in the mood to come down this morning (yesterday evening either). It's that time of the year again when it's cold, and his wings are damaged and he conserves his energy as much as possible.

Mr Crow (2026/01/30) I'm pretty happy with this picture I took of Mr Crow landing this morning. We can see that his wings are not in their best shape (it's been three winters in a row now that he had feathers breaking) but he's fine otherwise. A few seconds earlier, he was on

I'm pretty happy with this picture of Mr Crow from this morning.

I'll end today's already too long #CrowUpdate with an anecdote from last night that is also a first. I got home shortly before dusk. One crow (I couldn't tell if it was Mr or Ms) was standing on the usual pole (see above) but I heard more cawing and saw not one but two crows on the next pole […]

I haven't posted a #CrowUpdate in a while, not because nothing was happening, but because I didn't take any good pictures in a while. But I need to update you a bit of the latest developments.
It may be a bit long. I'll also recap a few things for the new […]

Birding (January 20th, 2026) You may or may not know that I have two neighbors who happened to be a couple of crows and who have become my "friends." I need to tell you more about them and the whole experience of befriending them one day, but today, it's only a few pictures. First,

I loved the pictures I took of Mr Crow so much today, that I safeguarded them in a blog post.
